Has anyone successfully trimmed down a DIY kitchens Helmsley door?

Been going through the painful planning process for kitchen renovation for the last few weeks.

One issue I’m stuck on is that I really want too boxes above my tall units but due to restricted space one unit needs to be 500mm wide. The Helmsley range has a 600mm wide top box but not a 500mm one. I’ve asked them and they won’t do me a custom door and can’t suggest any other work around.

If I don’t have the top boxes I could go for the extra height tall units instead but you just don’t get anywhere near as much extra storage space.

So I’m wondering if these doors can be successfully trimmed down? I’ve asked a couple of kitchen fitters who’ve come to quote to fit the kitchen and they all seem quite reluctant to commit to being able to do it, especially without seeing the doors in person. I don’t want to order it all and then it not be possible.

Other idea is should a joiner be able to exactly copy the door and then I paint it to match?

Would love to hear from anyone who has attempted similar.

What is the size of the top boxes? They only seem to be 300mm deep.
Making a 5 piece door plus the frame to fit plus painting is quite a lot of work.
They could make a small open unit with the outer frame more easily, and you could use it as a bit of a display feature.

Inframe units normally have the frame attached to the unit. You would find it very hard to cut a unit down then put it all back together again so that it looks like it's never been altered.
