What is it like as a place to live. Considering moving there as it is a 40 min commute from my work and affordable. Any thoughts on the area?

Hello op,
Do you mean Harrow or the London Borough of Harrow? There are some lovely parts of the borough such as Pinner, Hatch End & Stanmore, which are far more expensive than South Harrow or Rayners Lane, for example. West Harrow, near the tube station, has some lovely properties, as does North Harrow, which is considered desirable, due to its proximity to Pinner, but the local shopping area is very down-at-heel. Harrow town centre is very run down & has few decent shops left. Harrow-on - the -Hill is lovely, but expensive. I’d avoid Harrow Wealdstone, as it’s very deprived, although it has fantastic transport links. Like everything, it depends on your budget & what you require from it.

Ruislip, Eastcote & Ickenham, in the London Borough of Hillingdon , zones 5/6, are worth considering & the council is far better.

If you want any further info., I’m happy to help.

I lived in Harrow my whole life until 6 months ago and always enjoyed living there. The transport links are great for getting into London - even when there are tube strikes there are overground options from Harrow on the Hill and Harrow & Wealdstone.
I always lived around the Pinner View/County Roads area in HA1 . There are beautiful parks including Harrow Rec, Headstone Manor and West Harrow. We only moved as we wanted to buy a house and our only options were in Wealdstone which is not such a nice area , or Harrow Weald which is not as well connected transport wise.
If you go on any of the fb pages they are full of negative comments but I was sad to leave . Despite what you read , I always felt safe there as a single woman during my 20s and 30s in the area where I lived.
Harrow on the Hill where Harrow School is is the nicest area altho very expensive - nice to go for walks , Sunday pub lunches.

Lived in Harrow for 40 years as brought up 4 children there. Moved out to Rickmansworth 4 years ago. Saw Harrow change over the years. As someone else has mentioned the town centre is a little run down. Pinner and Hatch End are very nice.

We sold our house in North Harrow last year. The travel options are great, no train station is too far and having several options are great. Schools are really good as well. If I was looking at Harrow to move to I would look at houses in North Harrow ( Pinner side rather than West Harrow side) Pinner going into Eastcote and Hatch End. I would not recommend South Harrow, Rayner's Lane or Harrow Wealdstone.
But agree with pp about the parks etc.
