So.... Tiling man did our tiles and sockets hanging off, dh had to get special new screws to put them in and now there is gap? (as an aside the wires look really squashed in behind the plates) what can we use to fill the gap?? It runs the length of the socket and is about 0.5 cm deep?

I have not explained that well at all, we have had kitchen refurbishment and the last part was getting a tiler in.

Caulk?

SkankingMopoke · 08/01/2022 17:44

Do you mean the face plates of the sockets are now standing proud of the wall with the new screws, or that the tiler hasn't tiled close enough down to the back box?

Yarnivore · 08/01/2022 17:47

Can you take pics?

JanuaryBluehoo · 08/01/2022 17:48

So the tiler left the plates hanging out because we now needed new longer screws.

So dh has screwed them back in but now there is a gap between top and plate and tile. I could poke something into it.

Polyfilla? Then paint over.

Yarnivore · 08/01/2022 18:24

That looks dreadful. I would get the tiler back to sort it as those tiles haven't been laid properly.

Thegrassisntalwaysgreener · 08/01/2022 18:38

As your tiler said it needed longer screws I assume the front used to sit flat on the wall?
If so then the wires won't be anymore squished than before , however the gap is now caused as the screws are too long.

You need to cut the screws down

Unless your tiler has messed up so much that even when you screw it on flat then there's a huge gap at the top, but I doubt it.

So in short you need to trim the screws down as they are too long

Thegrassisntalwaysgreener · 08/01/2022 18:43

Mind you saying that, i have assumed that it's not touching at the sides or bottom. It's a bit difficult to tell from the picture.

If it's touching at the sides and bottom, is it screwed on straight? It is possible to get them slightly off kilter which may be causing a gap on top.
However if it's straight and touching on the bottom and sides then that tiling is terrible and the top tiles should be down to the top of the back box as the front plates as bigger than the back boxes so they should cover any gaps

JanuaryBluehoo · 08/01/2022 19:04

Yes so when tiles done the back box was smaller and plate couldn't sit in it? It was flush against wall before tiles went on.

So apart from the gap at the top , is it touching the tiles at the sides and bottom with the new screws in?

If so it's a bad tiling job most likely

If not you need to cut the screws down as they are too long for the back box and front plate
