look at pictures in Houzz or buy some decor magazines (e.g. Living etc). cut out the images of things you like. then search for things that are similar.

Check out Instagram. Some lovely interior pages I follow include thehouseacc ,

This is where property magazines come in. Find pictures online etc or go to a local paint shop in order to see what you prefer. Instagram is useful too.

I heard a handy hint the other day.
Advertisers and the like are very into what is Now, what is On Trend. Look at advertisements which are ostensibly for one thing (eg a sofa) but take note of what else is in the tableau (eg doors, door handles, etc) and take your cue from that.

I tried the trick and noticed how many mocked-up rooms featured that Berber carpet. I hadn't noticed previously!

Look up the 60 30 10 rule of interior design. The idea is that for a balanced colour scheme, 60% of the room is in the main colour, 30% is in a secondary colour and 10% is in an accent colour. I also like looking at interior design colour wheels for a better idea of which colours work together.

I used to know of a homewares shop that had one of the most beautiful and stylish interiors I’ve ever seen. I asked the owner for tips and he said the trick was to keep the walls and floors neutral. It certainly worked for him.
