Carpets - rough idea of cost…

I know this is a bit ‘how long is a piece of string’ but does anyone have a ballpark figure if what you’ve paid recently for new carpets fitted on stairs, landing and three really average size bedrooms?

I’m going to get it priced up properly but has anyone had this done recently & could give me an idea of what you paid? Thanks!

So I have just had a quote for a 15ft x 10ft bedroom. If I went for a typical bedroom carpet, felt backed,
would be around
£375, heavy domestic £475 (lovely thick pile and cleanable with bleach) would be cheaper if I went for a budget option. This included underlay, gripper, and fitting. I know that’s not quite what you were asking but might give you an idea.

Actually had a man out today measuring up for this! We’re only doing the landing and half-landing though: £400 all-in for a bog-standard neutral carpet, fitting, all the bumph (underlay, thresholds), and taking away the off cuts.

That was through Tapi. Our local indie was extortionate, unhelpful and hadn’t got a great range. I’ve heard good things about John Lewis for carpets!

£3k for.

I smallish lounge
3 bedrooms big, average double and small double
2 flights stairs
Downstairs hall and a landing.
I think price for mid sized rooms was about £400 ish. I think stairs bump up cost a bit as more work to fit

Amazing, thanks both that’s really useful!

I can get a good general idea from these costs - thank you Smile

I think DH has convinced himself it’s going to be thousands but I think it’ll be much more reasonable.

Our 3 small bedrooms have been about £950 and our big lounge was £800. This was for a Cromer carpet, underlay, grippers and fitting. Have had a quote for stairs and landing (hall will be tiles) and that was about £700 for the same carpet as all the other rooms.

You can carpet from £4 a sqm up to hundreds a sqm. I always choose a hard wearing carpet as I don't want to replace for at least 10 years.

£2300 for carpets, underlay, edges, adhesive and disposal. About £330 for the fitting. Had 3 bedrooms done, 2 landings and 2 sets of stairs. From tapi carpets. Got thick good quality carpet and best underlay

£1700 for stair runner and landing, 2 average sized bedrooms and inlaid coir matting in the hallway. That includes fitting and underlay etc and the stair runner was quite tricky as it has a bend at the top.

I'm also looking to get new carpet fitted and am agog at these prices. I liked a carpet that was £32 per sqm- so nothing fancy - and was quoted £1000+ for a 4.7x4.1m livingroom, for carpet, underlay, installation and disposal. That was an independent shop. I checked carpet right and their prices are similar for installation and disposal, if not more. We're in London.

CarpetRight price carpets on their website.

Seems about right to me. If the carpet is 5m width you'll need about 4.3m to allow for trimming and doorways.
5×4.3=21.5m2 x £35 is £752
If you add in underlay, gripper rods, fitting and removal of the old carpet and off cuts that works out.

We had the upstairs playroom done recently which isn't huge by any estimation and it was £950, we needed underlay and grippers and paid for removal of the old carpet too
