Please I am considering hob an island now, what would you advise in terms of position on an island, sink position in the run, where would I put dishwasher in this case?

@TizerorFizz our island is same size is yours but I must just be a messy cook as I would struggle with just the prep space by the side of your hob and I’d also splash the kids if they were sat the other side Blush Your garden looks gorgeous btw!

@Retrievemysanity

Anyone sitting at my island (if they did) wouldn’t get splashed! It’s a deep island. Nothing ever gets near the far side! Certainly when people sit at the table end they don’t get splashed. I might be a tidy cook though!

The is for the kind comment on the garden. It’s why we have lots of glass!

@TizerorFizz tomato soup always seems to get everywhere when I do it! Just thinking about it as I’m cooking now because I am a saddo, but also my eldest has SEN and I wouldn’t want her sitting anywhere near the hob, especially when she was younger and liable to climb etc.

I guess everyone’s circumstances are different but I definitely prefer the hob where it is as opposed to on the island at our old house.

One of the advantages of a hob on the island with dc is that you are still watching them as you cook and they still have your attention and input.

I wanted to get the type of extractor fan that sinks into the counter when not in use, and acts as a backsplash when it’s up. It wasn’t available when we built our kitchen so we got the in-hob type but mess and splashes hasn’t been a problem at all. I’m not deep frying anything though do it might depend on what you cook.

Don't judge the mess!! It's still a work in progress.. decorating not finished... new furniture coming... kickboards yet to be fitted when the down draft extractor is fitted next week! But OP just to show you size... my island is 155cm wide with a 80cm hob... so you would have a bit more space either side of hob. Mine is 120cm deep.

I think, to be fair, a small island doesn’t provide prep space or serving space. Lack of both wouldn’t suit me. If you can get a longer island I think it’s worth it.

We have a peninsula , not an island , but it looks as large as your island with cupboards to the back and the front with a 30cm overhang . It is at an 90 degree angle with the run of cupboards. We have a gas hob on it and a round cooker hood (which looks like a light ) above it . The sink is in a similar place to yours and has the washing machine and the dishwasher in that run of cupboards . One of the best things we did was to get 2 ovens side by side . We use one as the grill and the other as the oven, but at busy times we can use both as ovens . The other excellent buy was one of the 800cm wide drawers is our waste bins . These are positioned in the base unit close to the peninsula and hob as this is where all the food prep/ chopping is done .
