Our houses always get damp

I’m thinking it must be us? What am I doing wrong??

We don’t dry clothes inside and open the windows every day. I’m forever mopping up condensation from the windows and took some wallpaper down yesterday and there is a big gap between window frame and damp plaster by the window. So maybe that gap isn’t our fault. But past 3 houses:

Victorian ground floor flat - windows started leaking after a year so we probably didn’t look after them? What maintenance are you meant to do?? Also flat above leaked into us which was v stressful but not our fault.

House 2 - 70s ish ex council so very nicely built. Black mould around window seals and condensation on windows.

House 3 - same as house 2 and the issue I found yesterday (damp plaster round window). Appeared to be immaculate when we moved in!!

We do have a dehumidifier but it’s in the conservatory at the mo as that’s where we think needs it most.

Help!

I live in a damp cottage that is very under insulated and our windows don't get mouldy, we wipe any condensation off and use a dehumidifier in the bedrooms.

That's all the advice I have, keep the windows dry.

Hope someone else comes along with more

We get condensation on our windows overnight when it's cold enough. We just stay on top of it in the winter - wipe down every single window every morning, open them all every morning, heat the house adequately, dehumidifiers in the bedroom which has the worst condensation. We also never dry clothed inside etc.

Do you heat your house? What’s the relative humidity levels?

I have the same issue with my Victorian cottage. I have a dehumidifier in each bedroom and also use a window vac each morning to suck up the window condensation
