Gas & electricity price shocker quiz.

So our energy supplier has just told us that our fixed rate of £1,800 for gas and electricity will come to an end in Feb. Any guesses for how much they are planning to charge us for the same service after Feb?

(I won't keep you in suspense for too long).

Interested to know how you have managed to make a 32% drop in energy consumption?
I know it is doable, if turn off many things, and keep them off, but interested to know how you did it.
I'm fanatical about lights but the real impact has come from not using electric radiators and not turning on my electric aga which (in old money) cost £10 a day to run

Our provider wanted to more than double our joint utilities bill from £115 to £245 when our fixed rate was up in Nov, but I spoke to them and said they were basing our annual usage on the previous year when we at home so much more because the lockdowns, so of course it was going to be higher! They accepted my argument and we compromised on £145 and we fixed for two years. I do get energy prices are spiralling but I wonder how many of these massive rises the rest of you are quoting are because your previous year's consumption was inflated by three lockdowns? Just saying!

@FourTeaFallOut

Do you know your annual usage? That is a huge amount. I'm paying £160ish in old money (gas 16,000 kWh and elec 7,367 kWh) and can cap with my current supplier for £277.
13869 kWh per year and I have oil central heating
FourTeaFallOut · 07/01/2022 16:49

Oh, I have no idea then, I don't know the first thing about oil central heating.

The whole thing is stress inducing. I'm thinking about biting the bullet just going with the new cap offer even if it is a ridiculous increase just so I don't feel like I'm playing chicken with the prices. It doesn't have an exit fee, so if the market settles down and I can get a better rate later I don't feel obligated to stick with it.

Just to be aware the fixed price they offer you is just an estimate on average use. I live in a 4 bed semi, my tariff with BG is £110 a month for dual fuel but my smart meter shows I actually use a £170+ of energy a month so I make additional payments. We work FT, so no one home from 6.30am to 5.30pm, all appliances new and AAA rated etc. DREADING July when my fixed period ends, my comparison quote was £295 a month at best Sad

how much electric does your electric blanket use?
dont want to alarm you or anyone else, but can you say for sure that that uses less money than the heating? I dont know, but you can see what I mean.
Thanks for warning but according to manufacturers it costs as little as a penny to run all night.

I only have it on for a hour at a time as then get too warm, do not use it overnight. My electric costs seems to be the same not noticed a big increase.

Hello. Popping in to let you know that we're doing a Q&A with fuel poverty charity National Energy Action about these energy price hikes on Wednesday 23rd Feb at 12 noon. The thread is now open for questions here.

@Neolara

I don’t know details but my DD informs me there is a scheme for reduced energy charges for those with special needs.
I know she has a reduced rate due to DGD.
