Screeching noise when turning taps on - piglet John for this maybe ?

Whenever a hot tap upstairs is turned on a loud high pitched screeching noise can be heard In the kitchen. We have a combi boiler.
Sometimes turning the hot tap on in the kitchen sink stops the noise. On some occasions when a hot tap upstairs is on the kitchen taps starts dripping as well as hearing a screeching noise.
Last week during the night we could hear the screeching even though there was no taps running or heating on.
We got someone out who said it wasn’t the boiler but he thought it was the inlet valve causing too much water pressure in the pipes and when a tap upstairs was turned on the pressure was building and shooting up the pipes causeing a screeching noise in the kitchen. He turned down the valve from the mains outside to the house and the noise seemed to stop. But now it’s back even louder.
Anyone got any ideas what to do next ? Thanks.

Been up a few times during the night with the noise. Been googling the problem,
Could it be the actual kitchen tap causing the noise when the upstairs taps are on ? And nothing to do with water pressure, boiler or pipes ?

Nothing was on during the night but the noise started again, I wiggled the kitchen hot tap (didn’t put it on) and the noise stopped then started again when I let go.

If the kitchen tap sometimes starts dripping it is probably wear in that tap. Please post a photo, or a very good description. How old is it?

Thanks for replying pigletjohn.
.The tap in the kitchen is about 12 years old. It’s a single spout with seperate cold and hot levers on either side.
The taps upstairs are mixer taps and as soon as you turn them to hot the screeching and high pitch noise starts in the kitchen.
When you turn them off it stops. Then sometimes you hear the noise when nothing is on.
The kitchen tap sometimes drips when the noise starts from turning the tap on upstairs.
Someone from British Gas came out yesterday and said it wasn’t the boiler (didn’t even look at it ) it was the water pressure to the house being too high, turned the valve down a bit. He played with the kitchen tap as well and the noise stopped.
Turned the taps on upstairs and no noise so he said it was fixed. Definitely the water pressure being too high and if it starts again keep adjusting the valve under the sink. Not long after he left the noise started again with no taps being on.
It’s driving me mad the noise.

And even stranger , no screeching when I use the kitchen tap.

you mention levers so I expect it is a ceramic tap.

they are very prone to wear in the cartridges.

if it is a major UK make you can probably get replacement cartridges as reasonable cost. They are quite easy to change if you have a good set of spanners.

Any plumber can do it (does not need to be a gasman)

If you have taps with washers, it is even easier, and the parts are about a hundred times cheaper.

What boiler do you have?
We have a valiant and had the screeching problem too

It was one of the pumps in the boiler for the hot water, the bearings had gone.
They replaced it no screeching since

Our boiler is a valiant eco tech plus
It has 2 pumps for hot water

that's an interesting point.

If you turn off the boiler at the wall switch, does it affect the noise?

Had the same problem, finally tracked it down to the kitchen tap. changed the valve cartridge (did it myself with the aid of google) and fixed the problem

Thanks all, it was the tap.
If I held the hot tap lever while the bath tap was on the screeching stopped, as soon as I let it go it started again.
I git a new valve thing for inside the tap, and now no more noise !
