Mortgage advisor etiquette

I have been speaking to a mortgage advisor for the last year (free)
Advised me to pay off some debts, complete tax return as I’m self employed.

But I’m wondering if I should be speaking to more than one advisor? What if someone can find me a better deal? Or is that rude to talk to another person? My concerns are that I’m buying in London on one salary and I basically have just this one year to get on the property ladder using the 5% deposit scheme. So I feel a little anxious about finding the best possible mortgage deal.

Thanks for any help/ insight!

Do you doubt this one is doing a good job? Is he/she independent? Then they will already be trying to get you the best deal. But I don't think there's any exclusive agreement so get another opinion, though this may affect your credit rating if you are applying multiple times?

No, I think they are great! Recommended by a friend and I really like him. Though it’s my first ever dealings with buying a property, so I wondered if by picking one person, that would be a silly move and I should compare different people.

Like I said, I have no idea about this process at all. Even the credit rating stuff, I didn’t know that would affect my credit! (Been working on it for a year and finally have it looking decent!)

Thank you for your reply.

One thing to ask is if they are linked to particular banks or if they are a full market broker. If a full market broker, they will be able to look at everything available on the market to get you the best option. If one or two banks then their recommendation it will be limited to the products that particular bank offers. My last remortgage we used London and Country who are a free whole market broker.

I was recommended an advisor and they were so helpful and I felt they really were going above and beyond to help. Every time we tried to book a viewing of a house the estate agent tried to persuade us to see their own mortgage advisor. Every single viewing!! I politely declined and some wouldn’t let us go on their list to see their houses. I absolutely hate this kind of tactic. If you have found a whole of market broker you feel is acting j. Your best interests, I would stick with them!
