Kitchen fitting costs

A friend of mine recommended her builder to fit my kitchen.

We’ve had a quote from him and it seems really expensive. We need a small u shaped kitchen fitted and also a small utility room which needs the equivalent of four single cupboards top and bottom.

I’ve been quoted £7.7k for disposal of current kitchen and utility, fitting of new kitchen, tiling and fitting new appliances. I was expecting £4K max.
Am I realistic in my price expectation?

Only one way to tell - get more quotes and choose the one you think is most reasonable - not always the cheapest.

Costs have gone up a lot. I don't think that sounds absurd. And a recommendation is good to have.

My fitter charged £1200.it depends where you are too.

We are paying £3,750 fitting for a fairly large kitchen. Includes disposal of old kitchen, moving sink, hob etc. Does not include flooring or decoration.

Did they give you a break down?
What are they tiling? Just splash back?

CasperGutman · 02/01/2022 23:30

We paid £3k, but that was purely for fitting units and worktops. All the electrics, plumbing, decorating, tiling of splashbacks and fitting the flooring were separate.

CasperGutman · 02/01/2022 23:31

Forgot to say - our £3k was in a new extension, so no strip-out or disposal costs for the old kitchen to think about.

More quotes needed.
We’ve had a quote for 1.4k but then ours is truly tiny.

Sockpile · 02/01/2022 23:43

Thanks for the replies.
Breakdown is £1.8K for removal of old kitchen, £5K for fitting new kitchen including tiling, £600 for putting in new lighting and installing three appliances. Actually it’s £7.4K.

Decoration will cost more on top as will fitting the flooring.

I paid 1500 for removal and fitting this year. quite large kitchen

DoryisinCuba · 02/01/2022 23:52

I would be tempted to remove the old one yourself and hire a skip. You’ll save £1k for a day with a hammer!

Hairyfriend · 02/01/2022 23:59

Watching with interest as renovating. I had no idea fitting costs would be in the many thousands!!! I too would be removing the current kitchen and either:

  • try selling it
  • give away on freecycle/nextdoor/facebook
  • take to local tip/recycling centre
  • hire a skip
SleighbellsZ · 03/01/2022 08:55

I agree with trying to remove yourself!
