Kitchen island cladding ideas (pics attached)

Renovation almost complete, but not happy with kitchen island. I was originally going to paint it, but really don’t like the corners. Due to everything else going over budget, can’t afford the extra expense of a carpenter - has anyone “clad” their island or have ideas on how to hide the corners ?

Excuse the post Christmas mess everywhere - still waiting for some of the quartz to go up and walls need touched up.

What do you mean about not liking the corners? It will still have corners if you clad it.

I also don't understand the problem. It looks fine?

Do you mean the mdf boards? I think once it’s all painted you really won’t notice it.

To save money, we ended up putting the kitchen together ourselves and the corners aren’t flush (attached a new, clearer, pic), the edges are also a bit rough. I can’t paint over and disguise so thinking maybe a cladding to cover them would work otherwise it will just annoy me everytime I look at the island !

Yes exactly, where the MDF boards meet - just looks unfinished and rough still.

Are you referring to that groove down the side? You could fill it? Then paint over it? It really won't be a focal point for anyone else entering your kitchen.

I also think it looks fine but if you wanted you could glue some thin wood strips (3-5mm thick) to make a 'picture frame' on the end hiding the joins

Alternatively look on youtube for advice on finishing mdf ends. I think it is possible to get a smooth finish by paint and sand a couple of times, I have seen a video where a guy does this on a bookshelf and it looked great.

Easiest solution is something like this over the corners.

https://www.timberworld.co.uk/timber/skirting-mouldings/pinecushionncorner(h))pefctimberr-211x211x2400mmm00499.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0qHah8qI9QIVx-vtCh3NawbKEAQYAyABEgI41fD_BwE

You could clad the whole thing, but you'd potentially still have messy corners. And ideally you should have clad it before putting the skirting on.

Skirting is only pinned on thankfully. These are some great ideas !
