How do i motivate slow solicitors?

We instructed our solicitors on 29/09, we have heard very little from them, they are terrible at returning contact.
I rang three days in a row and eventually got to speak to the assistant who informed me that the enquiries had been returned on the 2nd Dec and that she would pencil in my file for review on the 9/10th. I heard nothing and rang back on the 15th and 16th and finally had a call from my solicitor who said the enquiries had been returned within a previous couple of days. I called her out on is saying that her assistant had said they had returned on the second and she said oh I must have misread the dates.
I heard nothing again and recontacted 23rd and wasn't able to get through and later that day the vendor's estate agent called wanting to know what is going on. I have sent a scathing email to my solicitor as she later sent a quick email saying she had contacted the estate agent and copied the email for me to see. She tried telling the estate agent that there has been a flurry of replies and that she is sorting in date order.
I sent a scathing email saying that I am unimpressed and I had my doubts over accounts being tended in date order as she gave me conflicting dates for the return of our enquires and that I wanted to be completed by February
I'm honestly at the end of my tether, we are first time buyers going into a chain free house I thought as far as house purchasing goes this should be an easy win. The mortgage has been in place since mid November. survery completed with nothing flagged other than one window being blown. We are solely waiting on them, enquiries were not raised until early nov.
How do I get them to get on with it?

Complain to the senior partner. If that doesn't work, report them to the Law Society.

Just take it over yourself. You sound very expert.

Are you for real? that's what you got for that post? i have absolutely no idea what's going on, hence being frustrated by the whole thing. I have no idea what's left to do what's been done. I have spoken to the solicitor a grand total of two times, ones to verify my identity and once for her to tell me a completely different date to the assistant with whom I've spoken once. so yeah a complete expert.Hmm

Have you paid anything? Dod you receive the enquiries? If not give them 3 working days to have them couriered to you. Tell them you will be reporting them and talimg you business elsewhere.

Of you're tied in, what I usually do is call every hour. They will soon hurry you up as they can't be dealing with it.

I had the same problem. Offer accepted Aug. Due to stamp duty increasing the buying of properties (apparently) they didn't get around to me until late November. Then found no planning in place for the extension. Result - I pulled out, prices had increased in that 6 months over what I could afford. Also they had to be paid. Quite honestly I believe they only took 3 or 4 days to find this out. I am gutted and they are laughing all the way to the bank. I'm about 5K down, more really what with rent still having to be paid. They might be busy but my purchase was a bog-standard terrace. I am convinced solicitors are as appalling as they have the reputation for being.

Just a bit of solidarity. Sounds like we offered around the same time and I am constantly ringing and getting the run around. We are also cabin free as is thr vendor so not sure wtf is causing the delays. Losing the will…
