Best log burner brands?

We have just moved house and would like to have a log burner installed as we have access to free firewood. We are aware of the ecodesign that we have to follow from 2022 and new legislation.

Which stove brands generally are the best and most reliable? We've heard mixed reviews on Dunsley- some say they are the best, others say they are so overpriced due to their limited suppliers. I've also heard good things about Stovax too.

We have gone round a couple of businesses and woodpecker was also recommended but we haven't heard of these before.

Thank you!

We've just ordered a woodpecker, due to be fitted in February. It has good reviews online and a good heat output at 5kw. In our old house we had a Yeoman stove and that was great but more traditional looking.

We have x2 Stovax (Stockton 11) as we also have access to free wood, so went with the larger size. X4 years in, very happy. They can be adjusted to lower the oxygen levels to "slow" the burner down. Also can blow (?) air over the front (internally) so the glass stays crystal clear. Personally I love it.

Love my Morso - and it has a squirrel on the side!

We have 2 x Dunsley and would highly recommend. Enjoy choosing!

Morso squirrel is the dogs bollicks!

chillipenguin.co.uk/ Chilly Penguin are the best. Made in North Wales, ours can be shut down so well that it only burns a few logs an evening. We wouldn’t be without it.

I have an Arada which is ok, and a Mazoma which is amazing- and was more than half the price of the arada! Both are inset stoves into old Victorian fireplaces. We also have an elderly Rayburn multifuel which has been condemned, if I didn’t want to move soon I’d put in another Mazona and get the chimney lined.

Arrow. We had an Aarrow Ecoburn 5. in our last home, it was a fantastic stove.

Clearview stoves. We have four, between our house and holiday cottages. Large or small, they just seem to work - controllable and generally do keep the stove glass clean.

We have a Jotul F500 and F200 and love them.

We had a model squirrel at our last house and it was great.
Were looking to have.two stoves fitted at our new home, another morso, a bigger one, which looks amazing and a very modern white douvre, that resembles a tv. But I would recommend model as that's what we had previously and it was.lovely, looked super cute with the squirrel and how well it functioned

Following with interest as we live in an old cold house and also have a plentiful supply of free wood! Do any of you recommend inset stove into existing fireplaces or do you think freestanding partially recessed into fireplace would give out better heat??

Hebeee · 22/12/2021 16:44

We have a Charnwood and the biggest size Dovre vintage. Have had them both for almost four years and would highly recommend either....

Another vote for a chilli penguin. Not huge but puts out more than enough heat for our old and draughty house, and looks great, gets loads of comments.

The model we have chosen also has an oven on top, so if we have a power cut we can cook lasagne (nothing much deeper, it's not very tall!).
