ItsNothingPersonal · 20/12/2021 23:00

Don't know if I'm in the right area or not...
But if you're bored, please help me!

Looking for a home anywhere in England.

Detached home.
Not a new build.
Village location.
4/5 double bedrooms.
Double garage.
A lot of land or a very decent sized garden.
Good schools.
Move in ready.
Up to 700k.

Anything, anywhere...

Thanks!

Anywhere?

probably not a big enough garden, but there's plenty out there. you need to narrow the search area, eg north vs south, commuting distance to family etc

ItsNothingPersonal · 21/12/2021 01:38

Literally anywhere!

I want to find new places. I'm hoping enough people will come by & say here, there, where they live, or their mum &/or dad lives, or a place they always wanted to live.

I want my eyes opened to all of England.
It is a beautiful country, really.

I would go north. I’m in the SE and you can get that for that maybe kinda in less nicer areas BUT wages oop north are same as here on the whole and life so much cheaper

QOD · 21/12/2021 08:19

My friend is from Hartlepool and intends to retire there. Hubby is a high earner city of London based but obvs that’s now t such an issue now
They have a 4 bed detached house at mo. 3 decent rooms and 3 receptions downstairs but so overlooked and garage across end of front garden etc
Same value as this

FreeBritnee · 21/12/2021 08:21

Interestingly we’re looking for the same but with a couple of counties in mind and the pickings are very slim indeed.

MissyB1 · 21/12/2021 08:22

I would look around Worcestershire/Malvern area. Not too remote, very pretty, and that budget should buy something nice there.

FreeBritnee · 21/12/2021 08:23

Actually I do have one or two recommendations if we weren’t tethered to a commute. There’s a couple of excellent schools in Norfolk. Close enough to Norwich to not be too rural with some very nice houses around that price point. So I’m going to recommend Norfolk.

time2tork · 21/12/2021 08:28

Alumchine (Westbourne) in Dorset
Canford Cliffs in Dorset
Lilliput in Dorset
Branksome Chine in Dorset

Village vibes, lots of woodland and a beach at the end of the road. Just a short walk from all amenities.

Also 10 min drive or train journey into the New Forest ☺️

EmmaGrundyForPM · 21/12/2021 08:33

I really fancy this one. Youd have your own island! Nayland is a gorgeous village in Suffolk, and it's got a great pub.

Shadowboy · 21/12/2021 09:13

I bought a 3 double bed house with 4 acres within the last 12months in Worcestershire for substantially less than your budget- I’ve seen some 4 beds round here for £700,000 with land

Shadowboy · 21/12/2021 09:18

Not for land but this is lovely - decent garden. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/115323170#/?channel=RES_BUY

I love the Forest of Dean

OMG this is STUNNING!!

littleowls83 · 21/12/2021 09:23

It's just too vague. What hobbies do you have? If you have kids do you need good transport links so they can get themselves to entertainment or are you going to not be working and be happy to be a full time parent taxi? Do you want to be by the sea/hills and open country?

JDuplio · 21/12/2021 09:24

I was in the same position and repatriating back to the UK after 10 years but a lovely lady on this group recommended a platform called Whereshome which helps you to find your dream location. It has been a god send in finding a location and giving you information on different towns around the UK. Have a play on there.

BingBongToTheMoon · 21/12/2021 09:24

You wouldn’t consider Wales or Scotland?

I just see flood risk here!!

Blahdyblahbla · 21/12/2021 10:19

Do you genuinely not have a single tie to anyone / anywhere? I'm baffled as to how that happens, not being goady.

Blossomgate22 · 21/12/2021 10:32

Come to a village close to Ripon, North Yorkshire.
Ripon has two outstanding secondary schools, one a grammar school.
Good primaries and a range, small village schools ( Skelton has about 30 pupils) up to larger primaries in Ripon itself.
Ripon has a range of independent shops and cafes. Gorgeous cathedral.

Both of these houses are 'village' but close to Ripon so as to meet the catchment area of both secondary schools.

And this - gorgeous - like a Christmas card from the outside, but needs work.

Sorry I went AWOL!

Thanks so much for all the help.

House 1 isn't my style! But never thought of Norwich! So thank you!!

House 2 is too close to next door unfortunately. But I like the area being so close to the Peak District.

House 3 is 😍 this is why I needed help. I never would have found this gem on my own! Thanks!!

@missyB1 yes, we are looking in that area & Shropshire too. But I can't find a whole lot that tick our boxes at the moment 😕

House 4 in Suffolk is lovely. But the flooding potential is massive. I would stay at this one as a holiday in the summer!

@BingBongToTheMoon love love love Scotland, would live there in a heart beat if they didn't keep talking about independence. We just don't know what currency they'll use or if they have a Scottish pound if it'll be able to be pegged to the UK pound. It's a huge risk for our money.
If they got their independence & got everything together, then definitely would happily live there.

@blahdyblahbla We do have ties, but don't want to go back to the county our parents are in. It's just not for us.
Parents have said they would pick up sticks to be near us when we found somewhere. I don't know if that would be a blessing or a curse Grin
We currently live in another country, so just being back in the UK would mean we would be close!

@blossomgate22 House 2 is beautiful. I also love that it's on a quiet road. Thank you for the area suggestion of Ripon!

@JDuplio - thanks! I will look in there too!

@FreeBritnee - I hadn't considered Norfolk! & someone shared a home near Norwich too. I will definitely look into this area more. Keeps me busy on a Friday night Grin

@ShadowBoy I've actually found this one on rightmove before & loved it but thought the garden was too small. But, the fact you're right on the doorstep to the countryside is my kind of thing!

@littleowls83 hmm, we have kids. All under 5. I'd rather we were in the countryside for safety purposes & if they have to rely on me for lifts then fine. A village is preferable because of the community & also having a local pub/shop/primary/church & possibly a very badly run bus service Grin
No real hobbies. The gym & dog walks.
