I moving home mid January.

The sellers have very kindly offered to have their electrician fit a new light fitting for me when he is removing theirs (sentimental value)

I am trying to find one that I love and may have found it (thanks to someone on MN!), but I can't remember if my new living room has a decorative ceiling rose.

I also would like to know some measurements so I can order my tv unit, and decide how many sets of drawers to take for one of the bedrooms.

Do I need to request all this through my solicitor, or can he ask them for permission for us to swap numbers?

I would have requested to go and measure up, etc. but the sellers may not be up for that considering Covid and Christmas being upon us.

Haven't done this before, so thanks for any advice!

Pop a Christmas card through their door with your request and phone number.

I would just communicate back via the estate agent and say you would like a chance to visit to measure up/inspect the ceiling for the light fixture if they would feel comfortable with that. On a practical level, it may be unlikely to happen before the new year as most people probably don't want visitors right now. Alternatively, you could ask them to take some photos and send you measurements.

We are going for a 'buyer's review' with our sellers in January (we complete in February) and we communicated via the estate agent who then shared their email addresses so we could set the day/time up directly with them.

Go through the estate agents.

My buyers were happy with photos and measurements that I sent through. If you aren't sure about the light then you could just ask that the electrician put in standard pendant light then you could replace it at your leisure.

Although this is a kind offer from the vendor, I probably wouldn't take them up on it. It's often better to live in a property for a couple of weeks before making a decision about decor. You could just plug in a couple of lamps, or as a PP said, ask them to put in a standard pendant for now.

We asked through our estate agent. The sellers were happy for us to come round and take measurements.

Through the estate agent - that’s partly why you pay them, so you don’t have to get on personal terms and swap numbers. In all honesty though I would probably wait until you got there and sort it from that point.

I’ve always swapped numbers with buyers / sellers and it’s been invaluable to speed things along or negotiate - it worked to our advantage on recent move as we ended up having to leave some stuff a day or so due to van being too small , on the flip side we accommodated them for various measuring up visits / family walk rounds

Estate agents.

It wasn't a problem.

Whilst there we spoke about where we were up with sols etc and exchanged emails so if one of us was waiting on the other solicitor we told each other and got onto them.
It did help.

You go through the agent as others are saying. Just ask for another viewing.
