How to design/style this tiny bathroom

I have this tiny 'main' bathroom which needs a complete refurb. Dimensions are 196 x 170. I don't think there is any scope to change the layout of the main items, but I'm just wondering if anyone has good advice on how to design it for maximum storage/practicality, and also what sort of style would best suit such a small bathroom.

Floorplan attached. The window is wider than the plan suggests - it extends most of the way to the left wall.

Our bathroom is almost identical to yours and our plan is to remove the bath and install a shower cubicle with sliding doors to maximise shower space and not have to open a door outwards as it would hit the radiator

I personally hate a sink under a window so there no way to put a mirror up, so I'd swap those and for storage and sleekness use this, you can get it with the toilet on the other side too.

It's from Bathroommountain

I have a similar arrangement to the picture above, with a shower bath in front of the window (with a screen across the window for privacy). It works fine

Get rid of the bath. Put a corner shower in behind the door.
Move toilet to where the 'tap end' of the bath is now.
Move sink to RH corner so it's not directly under the window ( you can have a mirror over the sink then)

I mean shower behind the door in the LH corner.

Steal some room from
the en-suite?

Thanks, I don't think there is room for the other elements if the bath went under the window.

Thanks, this is nice, and a good point about the mirror. But, I'm struggling to see where toilet paper would go in this scenario? As the toilet would be sandwiched between the other units, with no wall space or anything.

@Rummikub

Steal some room from the en-suite?
I have thought about this! It would make for a much bigger job though - the wall between them is the original external wall, and doing this would mean redoing the en suite as well (which is in perfectly good condition).

What are the priorities for the bathroom?

Bath? Storage?

DreamThrum · 19/12/2021 22:47

To those saying lose the bath, it's a possibility but we do both quite like a bath from time to time.

The last episode of virtually home had small bathroom redesign which looked good

catwomandoo · 19/12/2021 22:48

I'm my titchy bathroom, kept the bath and had a shower over and used the side panel as a drop down to give storage for bath toys and spare loo rolls. Put the mirror on the long wall at right angles to the sink.

Bath in en-suite instead?
And walk in shower for other bathroom.

The only thing I'd say about designing bathrooms, OP (and I've designed many of them) is that they are rooms just as much as the other rooms in the house are, and there's no need for them to look clinical or 'bathroomy'. You can do a lot with a very small space (and I wouldn't want to be without a bath or a shower). What style is the rest of the house? Modern or traditional? It needs to match that, really, and then you can work out the storage aspect!

Starseeking · 19/12/2021 23:01

Nothing useful to add to Op as following for inspiration and tips; I am currently looking for a bathroom designer!

Thank you. I would say more traditional. I think what I'm struggling with is working out the best spatial layout. Not just the big three units, but would there be any merit to moving the door, and considering things like the radiator and some wall storage.

Could you do a corner bath with shower over to add space?

ProudThrilledHappy · 19/12/2021 23:16

Alternative is a toilet with the sink over the cistern, but those sinks are quite small

RandomMess · 19/12/2021 23:22

How about a spiral radiator in the corner opposite the loo and then a full width mirror opposite the bath.

I have a rack on the wall to store rolled up clean towels which is good

TunnelOfGoats · 19/12/2021 23:24

Have you considered a Japanese Deep bath? I'd love one, and will have one put in when we do our bathroom up. Bonus is a smaller footprint, but deeper than a normal bath

Cherryana · 19/12/2021 23:27

Yes I have some ideas. My last bathroom I did the layout was similar. My current bathroom is smaller.

  • Long thin radiator that you also hang towels.
  • Under bath storage - my bath panel has a hinge and I keep loo roll and cleaning stuff.
  • If you are putting in a new loo then get one that hangs as even the small space underneath makes a room feel more spacious.
  • Wall hung storage - get as tall as possible with mirrors as the ‘cupboard doors’.
  • This one sounds counter intuitive but if you are ripping it all out - create a false wall with near the bath and create cubby holes for shampoo, soap - this declutters the whole room.
  • Tile the bath panel the same as the tiles.
