Advice from wooden, painted kitchen owners

Our wooden kitchen has been in site for a few weeks now. It’s had very light use but it’s showing a fair bit of wear and tear so far.

I’ve emailed the company that we’ve purchased it from but just wondered what others experience has been.

Prior to this I had a laminate kitchen from wren which was indestructible.

I am feeling absolutely gutted. This was our dream kitchen and cost an absolute fortune!

What is the problem exactly?

The paintwork is wearing already, especially on the frame of the cabinets and there are a number of dents in the doors.

Christ. Not normal op. What's caused the dents? The paint should not be coming off either. We've had ours 8 years and only this last year did I notice some paint wasn't looking good.

Ok thank you. That’s good to know.
Some of the dents were in situ when it was fitted and others have just happened as a part of normal use.
I need to pick this up with the company we have used. Absolutely no idea how they will resolve it, the whole kitchen has been fitted now.

We have had a wooden kitchen for 5+ years installed new. Maybe one or two dents now, due to wear and tear. Paint is still beautiful - only wear shows on areas of high friction like the top of drawer edges. Definitely pick this up with the company, it should not look awful so soon.

The fitting of the kitchen has been done over several weeks, due to supply chain and fitting availability - I’m at work when it’s fitted so unable to bring it up at the time.

I am not sure what is denting the doors, they just seem to appear.

Thanks for all the advice, this gives me peace of mind that I can be firm with the company that this is not acceptable.

Are they solid wood doors? If so they do dent and warp more easily than mdf but I wouldn’t expect this until at least a year or two. Def call the supplier

Dark paint can wear quickly too. But not that quickly.

TreeLawney · 18/12/2021 11:15

That doesn’t sound right at all. Ours is 4 years old and very little wear - if any - to the paintwork. I think we have 1 small dent but that was where I was really careless so totally on me. We have 2 young dc so fairly high impact on the kitchen too.

I remember seeing a painted kitchen in a showroom and I noticed that it was already showing some knocks and dinks in the paintwork, particularly on the edges of the doors. Not a good omen given that it hadn't even been cooked in or experienced normal daily use.

The paint layer was thin and not very robust at all.

On the other hand, I had a new kitchen fitted that had been factory sprayed in a copy of a Farrow and Ball colour first, then hand painted in situ using the same colour F&B paint and it didn't wear or chip at all in the six years I had it.
