Worktops - Granite or Quartz?

I'm leaning towards Quartz but wanted other perspectives. What have you got and are you happy?

Also, how do I find a local supplier? I'm on the border of London/Essex!

Granite, as it’s thousands of year old stone it’s indestructible. A couple of my friends have quartz and it’s a pale imitation in my view, it doesn’t have the same depth of lustre or quality feel.

@Macmickmoo

We had black granite in a hard water area - the acidic cleaners we used took the shine off it and it was an absolute bugger. Now have Silestone, sure it gets stained but as others have said bit of bleach, astonish barkeeper's friend and it's fine, would not touch granite again.
I think that’s because you used the wrong products, I use method black granite cleaner, spritz on, wipe off with a micro fibre cloth and it looks like new. Hot pans, stains, nothing touches it. But if use acid on it, it’s going to be a problem.

We are going for Dekton. Another option to look at. Bit less prone to heat/stains than quartz

I have granite, it’s almost 9 years old and in perfect condition. I’d get it again if I move, I’m
not at all precious with it.

I have granite. Perfect after 11 years. I’m very happy with it. It’s speckled so nothing shows on it. I have hard water and no issues. I used to have black in a firmer kitchen and I just find it sucks light out of a room.

I have quartz at my flat. It’s ok but I feel it’s inferior to granite. I just wipe my granite. However the quartz is white and it would depend on what look you want.
