range cooker with quartz work top?

Yet another question on fitting new kitchen!! If you have a range cooker with quartz worktop is the worktop fitted right up to the cooker? Can you then get the cooker out if it gets a fault? Dont cooker suppliers say there should be a gap each side of cooker? Everything I look at online suggests no one has a space either between cooker and units or cooker and worktop.

We have a thin gap between the edge of the worktop and the range cooker. The cooker can be pulled out for repair or cleaning if needed. It then slides back in.

We had to have a gap of at least 8mm between range cooker and cupboard otherwise our worktop fitter would have refused to template it! He said ideally there would be 12mm.

I'll take a pic of the worktop and range later

Ours is granite but the range cooker slides in and out.

LouMoo13 · 08/12/2021 15:25

We've just had a quartz worktop fitted with a range and there is a small gap either side. Cooker could be moved in and out if needed.

There is always a gap (which can be a bitch to clean) unless you choose the induction type range hobs.

Thanks the gap in the photos shown is what i have seen on all the kitchens i can see online. It looks about 2 or 3mm not the 10 or 12mm callmejudith mentions and cooker suppliers want.

Loumoo and Dorothea - is it just 2-3mm as it looks in photos? did fitters have no issue with that?

LouMoo13 · 08/12/2021 18:59

Yes it's only a few mm. No wasn't an issue at any stage. It was in the plan like that and the quartz fitters/ templaters were fine with it...

PlumManor · 08/12/2021 20:02

I have granite and a range, pretty sure our fitter said 5mm each side for expansion and fitting.

No problem sliding our out, but it’s easier if you’ve mopped the floor and it’s wet!

PlumManor · 08/12/2021 20:05

12mm is a big gap either side, I wouldnt want that either side! You would be constantly dropping peas down or splashing grease.

Yours looks gone OP, a little on the snug side but if the range went in, it will come out!

PlumManor · 08/12/2021 20:06

*looks fine - bloody iPad

LazyDoll · 08/12/2021 20:07

It’ll be on the appliance spec.

kitchenskitchen · 08/12/2021 21:14

All appliances say they should have a gap in the spec but obviously very few people follow this as I cant find any with gaps on any of the premium kitchen suppliers galleries.
Sounds like most fitters are fine with small gap. Callmejudith - was yours via a kitchen supplier or direct with work top supplier?

Yes and it's up very close, but you can still pull the cooker out. Snug though.
