If you have a kitchen/diner.....

...what colour are your walls? We're thinking about knocking through. We're planning a new kitchen, and the one we've earmarked would probably need white walls, but there's no obvious place to have a change in wall colour for the dining room. I'm not sure I like the idea of white walls in the dining room, although I like the idea of the room being all one colour. I'm worried it would feel a bit cold.

Any ideas for adding colour and warmth? I'm not sure about a feature wall - the room is quite dark, and I think feature walls only really work with bright or darker colours. Although I'm actually hopeless with seeing designs for rooms, so this is all a bit tricky. If it helps, furniture and floors will be wood, kind of a pale-mid darkness wood for the floor, darker for chairs and table.

Thank you!

I like shades of white and I don't think it looks clinical for a dining room if it is an off white rather than pure brilliant white.

You can always use accessory colours or even a large area rug to bring some colour and zone your dining room even if the walls are the same colour as the kitchen

We've 3 creamy coloured and 1 a deep red.

Very pale blue. I love it.

Kitchen is black and white so white walls. The 'dining' part is the extension that I have put brick slips on so that warmed it up instantly

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 08/12/2021 16:13

Ours is a sort of very pale sea-blue (a colour I loved so much I chose it again when we had the extension done), but the one wall that is entirely in the dining room is the same colour a few shades darker. I love it.

I prefer white walls and put in colour through furnishings and into the kitchen units.

We have dulux ‘white mist’ on walls and brilliant white ceiling and picture rails, oak floor and’wooden’ kitchen. The colour comes from the curtains, cushions and rug.

Our kitchen/diner/family room is pure brilliant white and so is the rest of the house. We do not like coloured walls and add colour through furnishings and large paintings.
So for me all white is good.

Ours is white but we have decided when we redecorate to go for one wall in the snug part in a duck egg blue.

gersteddybears · 08/12/2021 18:07

Ours is a very pale grey. If u look at it, it looks white until u see the ceiling which is white. It's called grey hints.

We have a rectangle shape and the bottom wall where the table is we have a feature wallpaper. It's white grey and yellow. I've then got same colour fabric blind at kitchen window (patio doors have perfect fit white Venetian blinds). Then I got nice yellow accessories from Next. Vase, photo frames for the walls and fruit bowl. It adds a nice splash of colour.

Although, I've gone off the wallpaper now lol (it has been up 3yrs) so I might change it and the blind. Just try to bring in some bright splashes of colour by changing the frames, vase, fruit bowl etc.

Farrow and Ball 'Wimborne White' - a warm white throughout our kitchen diner (grey cupboard doors [inherited with the house - so old the colour had come back into fashion] and white worktops).
When the kitchen task lighting is on; everything is nice and bright. When the soft lighting is on (particularly at the dining table end of the room), it's very cosy indeed.

Ive got white walls through out...in tve dining bit Ive got a huge colourful canvas begore I had a huge wall clock

Hoesbeforebroes · 09/12/2021 00:24

Oriental style rugs in dark red patterns are great for adding warmth and cosiness, but also very forgiving of spills in a dining area.

Chloemol · 09/12/2021 00:27

Almond white

RebeccaBristol · 09/12/2021 00:46

We added colour to the dining area with a large painting (1m x 1m). We has neutral colour walls
