It’s a lovely town with both pros and cons. Quite literally Shrewsbury or Shrowsbury depending on which part of town you live in.
The water is absolutely terrible, dry hands and poor condition hair can be annoyingly rife, whenever I’m there for more than a few days my hair will look rather dull.
Train links are good, Birmingham, London, Manchester all fairly easy to get to
Some small town mentality and often very much everyone knows everyones business in some parts but not everywhere.
Good selection of independent shops in the town centre, there’s a few decent high street stores too (the M&S is fairly pensioner oriented) there’s also plenty of small cafes and bars to visit.
There’s great historical provenance within the town with some incredible buildings and interesting stories.
The schools are good but I’m not sure how diverse the classes are in the regular secondary’s -if that would be something you’d be particularly bothered by.
Surrounded by stunningly beautiful countryside, Shropshire is glorious.
Great international presence in terms of tourism and students from the college.
Some areas can smell horrendous at certain times of day/ year due to sewage works and farming so it’s worth doing some research on which areas before making a move.
The river floods so don’t buy on any of the flood plains.
