Online estate agents - where do you collect the keys?

We're due to complete on our first house next week.

As our estate agents is online (Strike) and don't have branches, where should we expect to be told to collect the keys from? Does anyone know?

We're both going through the same online solicitors 😬

You can organise through your conveyancer what happens with keys. We sold through Yopa and they offered a key holding service for a small cost so I’d imagine other online agents also do. In the end, we left all sets of keys with the neighbours to be collected. Our buyers did initially say they didn’t want this because “how can we trust the neighbours not to get a set cut for themselves?”, but we pointed out that the neighbours had always had a set of keys anyway in case we locked ourselves out, so if they were that bothered to get the locks changed on moving day.

We just got it off the sellers when we got to the house before they left

We bought an unoccupied house through Purple Bricks, and the agent who'd done viewings with us met with us at the house for handover - he was pretty local, but it did have to wait until he'd finished another viewing.

Interesting responses, seems like it's been different for everyone. I have a feeling it'll be a situation where we meet the sellers at the house as they leave to handover keys.

Sold through strike and I handed our buyer the keys

We collected the keys directly from the vendor ( or more accurately they were still moving out when our removal van arrived and we were still an hour away so they handed the keys to our removal men).
We had a friend who was a close relative of our buyers, so we passed a key to our friend before moving day for her to hand over once we'd completed, worked well for us but I don't think the solicitors completely approved of that arrangement.

I bought an empty house from purple bricks, the local agent met me in a lay-by with it Grin

Next door neighbour. That sounds odd looking back but no issues and great neighbours.

prayingforrainbows · 04/12/2021 21:06

@united4ever yeah a few people have said this too! Although our sellers have admitted they've never talked to the neighbours and hardly ever see them 🤷🏼‍♀️

I sold with Doorsteps last year ( painless experience and cost me £250 to sell a 400,000 house)
I had got to know the couple who were buying and left the back door key hidden in the garden, all other keys left indoors

DD bought in September through Strike. She collected the keys at the house from the seller.

The seller was lovely and they both kept in constant tough through the Strike App so all very relaxed handover on the day.

Completion was at 11am, but DD collected keys at 6pm to give seller time to get out, DD was a FTB so no mass urgency to get in.
