Removing tile grout... Help!

We are currently doing renovations to our hall and in our wisdom decided to remove the over 20 year floor tiles. It took about a week to get them up. Now we are chipping away at the old grout trying to get it up. It's been three days and still got loads to go.

Has anyone got any tips to get it off quickly?

New flooring going down this weekend 😭🤦‍♀️

You mean the tile adhesive which was under the tiles, as opposed to the grout which would have been between them?

I'm not aware of a "clever" way to remove it. As far as I know it'll have to be removed mechanically. I'd probably try using a hammer and bolster (wide chisel) or an SDS drill with the rotation stop set and a flat bit, at a 45⁰ angle to get under the adhesive and chip/scrape it off the floor.

Maybe one of these might do it, with the chisel-type end, if you can find a friend who has one? Depends how hard the substance is, though. We have used one for removing stubborn, thick layers of wallpaper, and cut through kitchen cabinets and worksurfaces and plasterboard with it. There are other ends you can fit for other jobs, and as a general tool, we've used it for all sorts of things.

You couldleve it down. Vacuum the floor and put a slef levelling compound over the top instead.
This is obviously dependent on the final levels you will require.
If you go down this route I can recommend this product, I used it over 35m2, it dries within hours.

After days of chipping away with a chisel and then sanding down. I got the floor smooth and level as could be. The new wooden flooring got put down today and it's looking good.

Thanks very much for all your suggestions. I will try them out on our next project renovating the kitchen and bathroom.
