Shared Drive without a dropped kerb

Hi, I'm at a loss where to start, so hoping you may help me. We own a 1930s house with a shared drive. The kerb was never dropped when the properties were built. When we purchased the house over 25 yrs ago the neighbour didn't have a car so never used the drive and we (I realise now) illegally, occasionally squeezed our car down the drive. We now want to put in off-street parking and utilise the shared drive - any thoughts how we do this. Do we have to pay for a double drop? Thanks so much for any help, thoughts, ideas.

Could you do a diagram?

gogohm · 29/11/2021 16:51

You need to pay for the place where you will go over the pavement

I think you need to put.a request through your local authority for a dropped kerb?

mrsm43s · 29/11/2021 16:57

You need to make an application to your local council to get the kerb dropped. You need their permission, need to use their approved contractors, and its pretty expensive (I'd be budgetting £1000+).

Yabu for no diagram. You know the rules.

Thanks, I knew it was going to be expensive. :( I hope they can do one very wide one to accommodate the shared drive.

Around here (SE not London) it would cost you £2-£2.5k all in.

Depending upon how many of your neighbours have already done dropped kerbs it may not be approved just to warn you. but yes as others said it isn't cheap
