New house and cold windows.

We have just moved house. And the windows are about four years old in certain parts of the house. But boy do they let in a lot of cold.

My last house had older windows than that but couldn’t feel the breeze coming through.

Is there anything I can do? Has anyone down something to the them to make it better. Obviously as we have just moved in money is tight so can’t just change them.

Where can you feel the breeze? If around the frame that's obviously not right. Are you sure there are no trickle vents open?

How do they let the cold in? Are there noticeable drafts?

On the windows here that lose a lot of heat I have thick blackout curtains which I make sure are drawn at dusk. Makes a real difference.

It was really cold and very windy yesterday, at least where we live. Anything but hermetically-sealed windows would let some draft in under those conditions. I'd say don't get worry about it too much yet. Wait and see what they're like under more usual weather conditions.

What kind of windows do you have? Sash types will let in a bit of air. Even the pvc ones. If it's pvc did you check if vents are open? Where is the draft coming from?

Sealant shrinks with age - probably just need resealing. It's a super easy job that anyone can do & a tube of sealant & applicator gun is less than £15.
