Dear vendor, will we ever exchange?

Here's an open letter to my vendor. Join my moan!

Dear vendor,

It's me again. Yep. The buyer of your property. Remember how you wanted to be moved by Christmas? And how you encouraged us to go as fast as possible so we could get everything sorted before the holidays?

And then you go silent! You ignore my solicitor's enquiries, stating you need to find some paperwork. Oh yeah, and then your estate agents go bankrupt, so I have no one to push as an intermediary.

So here I sit, wondering when we'll ever exchange. Should I put up Christmas decorations, or keep holding off in case we actually get keys before 2022? You used to be so good to me, vendor. Quick communication, lots of reassurance. Why did you go so cold?

Sincerely,
Your (still besotted, yet annoyed and anxious) buyer

Have you forced the Christmas question yet @JustMakingBananaPancakes? I know they said initially they want to move by Christmas, but perhaps they've decided to stay put over the festive season? My vendor only confirmed no to pre-Christmas when I pushed the EA to ask directly what their plans were, so it might be worth forcing it, even if you're not going to like the answer.

The uncertainty previously was making me so anxious, whereas now I know I'm not due to hear anything on that purchase until 4 January at the earliest, so I'm busy making plans to see few and far between other properties which may be suitable Wink

That's exactly it, isn't it? It's the not knowing.

I've told my solicitors to force the Christmas question. But they said they aren't getting a response from the vendor's solicitors. When I pushed my solicitor, she said, "Well, maybe the vendor's solicitors haven't updated us because there isn't anything to update." Sighhhhhh.

The vendor's estate agent went out of business last week, so I don't even have them to push. My solicitor told me not to bother contacting the vendor's solicitor because they won't talk to me. I thought about knocking on the vendor's door, but I reeally don't want to alienate her because nothing good has come on the market since our offer was accepted in September. She could get £15-20k more now if she put it back on the market after Christmas. So I'm not really in a position to be throwing ultimatums around.

More than pushing things along, I just need to know where we stand, just like @beguilingeyes said. Are we one week away from exchange? One month? A year (heaven help us!)? Currently sat with a massive new sectional sofa in our dining room wrapped in cling film, all set for the new house. Would be awesome to know when we get to use it :)

That sounds awful @JustMakingBananaPancakes, you don't even have the estate agents to complain to!

Apologies if I have missed it, but when was the last date you heard from the vendors solicitor to provide any information on anything? If it's more than 2 weeks, they are being completely unprofessional, but other than raising a complaint with the Law Society (which would probably lose you your purchase), I'm not sure what other avenue you have to push it.

It's been exactly two weeks since the last update. Who knows at this point. But my shrink just upped my dose of anxiety meds, so I should be good to go lol. Thanks for responding to my ranting. It feels so helpless when you've tried every avenue and the answer is "just wait." That's why I'm off to re-watch Parks and Rec ☺️
