Induction Hob Help

Hi all

Bit of a long shot this

We bought a second hand kitchen in 2020 - because of Covid etc etc , we've only just got round to fitting it.

All the appliances work great except the induction hob which doesn't respond to any input. I'm really hoping that this is because there is some magic way of unlocking it as it's wired in correctly and it would be a real shame if it's dead.

I've attached a couple of images of the hob in the hope that somebody has the same one and one image of the brand logo - that's all we have, there's no name or model number on it.

Worst case, I'll just have to buy a new one but hopefully someone can help!

Many thanks

I don’t have this induction hob, or recognise the brand but I’m going to guess that it’s one of the 2 buttons at the bottom of your 2nd picture (the key, or the one that looks like a power/stand by button).

My induction hob has this as a safety feature - so you don’t accidentally turn on the hob by leaning on it/resting something on it.

I hope you sort it. I love my induction hob!

MrsKipling16 · 26/11/2021 18:46

Another thought, have you put an actual induction compatible pan on the ring you are trying to use, when you are switching it on? You need the pan to be in connection with the “ring” to make it work - and apologies if I’m stating the obvious, not all pans work on induction hobs!

MrsKipling16 · 26/11/2021 18:50

Me again, sorry! You might need to hold the power/stand by button down for a few seconds for it to recognise you really want to turn the hob on (as opposed to have touched it briefly by accident).

Then select the button that links to the ring your pan is on, then use the + and - buttons to increase/decrease the temperature.

Feel like I’m over-invested in your induction hob now Blush

sadnortherner · 26/11/2021 18:56

Thank you Mrs Kipling, I appreciate you getting invested :)

We have tried a variety of different button options and put a pan on a ring but it refuses to acknowledge our existance! My concern is the fact that there are no lights at all on it or beeps, even to say that we are doing it wrong. I hope it's not dead because our budget is well and truly spent but we'll just have to find a bit more if so!

Hmmh, that doesn’t sound too promising if you’ve tried various combinations of the above Sad

Sausagis · 26/11/2021 19:07

Mines different, but if it's on lock it'll still flash (to remind you turn the lock off).

Mine is a bit broken and to turn it on instead of pressing the power "button" (not an actual button, the touch panel) I have to lean on it with the palm of my hand and really push down (so more pressure over a larger area). Once on its fine!

Whitney168 · 26/11/2021 19:09

Is the pan you’ve tried on it induction hob compatible?

sadnortherner · 26/11/2021 19:12

Hi Whitney - yes it is - Sausagis, I'll try expanding my touch range!

Thanks everyone

Check your consumer unit for the RCD of the hob circuit. If it's tripped, then you may be overloading the existing cable/RCD. Or an electrical fault with the hob may be the cause if it's tripped

our induction hob has a little magnetic spinner which has to be placed on the dial to make it work. without that, nothing works.

if the spinner was packed by a mistake, you'll have to try to get hold of a new one.

parietal · 26/11/2021 22:19

the magnetic spinner looks like this

TizerorFizz · 26/11/2021 23:14

To be honest it looks like a very ancient hob. Have you got the correct wiring? Is it locked? Can you download an instruction manual? What make is it?

twointhemorning · 27/11/2021 03:37

Are you sure it's an induction hob?
The rings are quite distinctive and look similar to this Beko ceramic hob. Might help you track down the model.

sadnortherner · 27/11/2021 06:17

Morning everyone - thank you so much for your help. After endless searching and trying different approaches, it turns out that
twointhemorning is right, it was actually a ceramic hob not induction as we were told by the kitchen seller (shows how much we know! as I've never had either before) and it was made by a company called CDA a long time ago!

Anyway, apparently, it should beep and light up when the power switch is pressed, the electrician who wired it in assures me that it is matched to the correct power requirements so we've accepted that it's dead and have treated ourselves to this one which seems to get good reviews as we did really want an induction hob

Thank you once again for your help - wasn't expecting so many replies

I'd replace it with an induction if I were you then .
