Misled about south facing garden

Hmmm... Just wondering if anyone has any advice as to what I should do (if anything) about being sold a house with a south facing garden but now we are living in the house it's very quickly dawned on me that it's not in fact a south facing garden 🤔And the compass confirms this.

Does having a south facing garden add to the value of a house (I would have thought so) so should I contact estate agents, or will they think I'm nuts. Hate the thought we have been lied to. Yes, we didn't take a compass with us and check when we viewed, on the 3 viewings it was summer and bright and sunny. Gah, it doesn't spoil the garden but does annoy me.

I mean, Google maps shows a compass on it. It points North, and South is the opposite.

You don't! Just open google maps and look at your house on the satellite view with the compass arrow pointing north. You will see what direction your garden faces immediately.

I don't understand how you know it's NOT south facing if you don't know which way it does face?

This sounds like a case of caveat emptor - buyer beware! This is the sort of thing I have always double checked for myself. I really don’t think there’s anything you can do about it now!

How long have you lived in it? Have you really never noticed which windows/rooms the sun hits first thing in the morning? How did you notice it wasn't south facing?

Fucking hell. Are people really so thick that they can’t work out the direction a house faces before they buy it then moan about being taken advantage of by estate agents?

Why have people even mentioned a compass?! Type in your address to google maps and look at the map. It’s literally as simple as that.

Also, RightMove literally has a "view on map" button.... where you can see it on Google maps, with north orientated at the top so that it's obvious.

How much thought did you give this house purchase? Hundreds of thousands of pounds, one of the biggest purchases you'll ever make, and you apparently gave it less thought that you'd apply to your choice of dress for your Xmas party.

South facing back gardens are too hot.

I love my living room being light but shady in the summer.

Also there is a compass on your smart phone!

I just had to check to see if this was a zombie thread created before the invention of the internet and google maps 😂

You can use Google maps to check where North is. My garden is south west facing and is flooded with sun all day. Too much on a hot day! We've had to install a canopy to stop the sun coming through the bifolds as it makes the house too hot. So doesn't have to be bang South. I would list it as a South facing garden if we sold

No shit 😁 I do know which direction it is, but it clearly annoys so many people that I haven't said. Who cares anyway, it's clearly a non fucking issue for everyone who wasn't as daft as me not checking beforehand. Cheers to the responses that were actually helpful.

You check the location and orientation on Google maps before you even view the house. It is directly linked from the Rightmove listing.

I think the comments have mostly been bemused rather than rude and condescending. Why not just put your address into google maps now and put us out of our misery 😂

How on earth did you not check?!

You should have a compass on your phone if an an iPhone or equivalent. It's how I check the direction of the houses we've bought - south or south west is very important to me.

If you've not checked how do you know it isn't south?
