Anyone got an 800mm wide single butler or belfast sink that they are happy with? Anything I should consider or avoid? Thank you

Look at blanco sinks, modern and butler sinks with a ridge.

Cabinetministers · 20/11/2021 22:25

Thanks - I have just looked at blanco and cant see an 800. Do you know that they sell one? Am looking for something white that would suit a period property.

Blanco Villae comes in a 800mm single bowl. Reginox, Rangemaster and Villeroy and Bosch might have them too.

Zinnia · 21/11/2021 00:17

Shaws of Darwen do them too

littleone7 · 21/11/2021 00:18

We have the Shaws of Darwen 800 single sink. It's great! I looked all over and that's the only place I could find one.

Cabinetministers · 21/11/2021 09:08

Thank you all. Shaws was the only one i could find initally. I have found blanco villae now. very strange as i had searched blanco website but without searching villae i couldnt find it

Reginox, rangemaster and villeroy dont appear to do 800 single unless anyone knows different.

littleone7 - how long have you had your shaws one?

I have to say I didn’t check the ranges of the manufacturers I quoted but I know they are decent makes! I have a very large double Belfast style sink. Makes more sense to me as we have a separate stainless veg prep sink on the island and the double Belfast is for washing up, rinsing and then draining in the second sink. It is a lot more versatile then one big sink. We have waste disposal in one side too. Plus in the veg prep sink. If you have a big kitchen, don’t just have one sink.

Cabinetministers · 21/11/2021 12:05

Thanks. I will have another sink at the other end of the kitchen. I had always planned to have a double butler sink but all the comments on MN had made me change my mind about the need for it to be large for oven shelves, trays etc so i presumed i would use a washing up bowl in one end so it had flexibility of double and single - is that a bad idea? I definitely want to be able to rinse/drain in 2nd area.

How often do you wash oven shelves etc so they have to be immersed? In my case, I put the shelf on the sink and fill it with water. Works well for me. On balance I find the usage of the two sinks on a daily basis for all sorts of things far more useful than immersion for oven shelves. You can do completely separate tasks in two sinks. You can’t really with one. There is a reason hardly anyone makes a giant single sink! Only a few people on MN buy them!

Cabinetministers · 22/11/2021 12:51

TizerorFizz - what you say makes sense. I had never considered a single but then reading threads on here everyone seemed to be promoting single and the arguments made sense for flexibility at the time!! I would have another sink in the kitchen too for getting drinks etc so it wouldnt be my only sink. I really dont know now! Anyone else?

Do you have a laundry room? If not do you hand-wash items? How would you store items whilst you empty the sink? This applies to everything. Where do you wash and prepare veg? What about hand washing and draining glasses or other delicate table items? Think about how you will use these sinks - how does your kitchen/laundry work? I agree that what MN thinks isn’t you! Not me or anyone else!!

Cabinetministers · 22/11/2021 14:13

I have a double sink in the utility room but never hand wash clothes - plenty of sports shoes but they will stay in utility.

Maybe people were opposed to double sink as it wasnt as wide as 800 overall so you would have 2 small sinks. No idea now but it seemed good reasoning at the time. I think i will let my husband make one decision on the kitchen and this can be it!

Ha! Mine barely uses a sink! Other than to drink water! Just try and evaluate what you use a sink for most frequently. I’m really wedded to 3 sinks! But not small ones. 800 single is a huge trough though!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 22/11/2021 19:22

I've bought a single 800mm sink from Shaws for my kitchen and a big double Belfast from somewhere else for utility

cloudtree · 22/11/2021 19:24

I have a single 800mm shaws sink in the kitchen and double Belfast sinks in the Laundry room and the boot room. Much prefer a large single sink in the kitchen.

Cabinetministers · 22/11/2021 23:15

Please can you explain the benefits of a single sink. I was thinking of draining in one of the sinks as i wont have a draining board although i will have 2 dishwashers so hopefully wont need much hand washing. Do you use a bowl inside the sink as it is presumably too big to fill with water to wash up a couple of things. Thank you

cloudtree · 23/11/2021 14:58

Benefit is that you can fit large things in it. Thats about it.

Naughtynovembertree · 23/11/2021 21:56

I've got 600 etagon in ceramic blanco in period house and I adore it.
Not sure about 800 though in ceramic.
Blanco website should show it.

Naughtynovembertree · 23/11/2021 21:57

Etagon sink has a ridge inside with rails you move. That's your draining board in the sink.

Redsquirrel5 · 24/11/2021 08:27

I have a single large sink. Will measure later not up yet. I use a bowl in it then you can wash veg at the side if bowl has things in but mostly empty the bowl then use sink. I had 2 1/2 stainless steel before but that was because I needed to fill horse buckets and wash cat bowls. Sadly we don’t have either now and just the two of us now.
I have a small drainer from Lakeland on the work top.
