How do I replace a small piece of skirting in my kitchen

Silly questions and I will be going to somewhere like homebase but how do I replace a small piece of skirting board? Buy wood and stick it on with super glue?

Skirting is usually screwed into the masonry - or has been in every house I’ve ever lived in. You could glue (use masonry or wood glue rather than superglue) if it’s only a very small piece but the wall surface would need to be very flat and even and you’d need to prime the area first or it won’t adhere.

Our skirtings are all glued to the wall.

Ours are attached with no more nails

Thanks and I could buy a piece of it from the homebase?

Yes, you should be able to get skirting at your local B&Q etc, along with Gripfill or similar (to stick it on).

Worth checking online before you go to the shop if your local store has the right skirting ie correct height and profile, and offers a cutting service to cut it to the right length.

If it's a corner bit it can be a little more complicated, but it's perfectly doable.

I'd use "no more nails" for a small job like that.

Ok thanks this is sounding very promising it's such a small job and it would be nice to do it ourselves before the floor gets put in.

@Naughtynovembertree if it's only a small bit you may be able to get a sample piece from a company like

mdfskirtingworld.co.uk Or

www.skirting4u.co.uk/product-samples

Basically google skirting board samples

You will find that skirting board companies will have a full range of the profiles (shapes) unlike a diy store which is only likely to have 1 or 2

Mines a mixture, the older skirting is wood and screwed then the holes filled. The newer parts of the house have mdf skirting (looks exactly the same painted) and have been glued on with no nails by the carpenter.
