Garden office tips

Our garden office should be built next (after 5 months if waiting...!). Has anyone had one constructed recently? Got any tips?

We're paying the person who sold it to us to construct and fit the internal electrical outlets then have an electrician coming a few days later to lay an amoured cable from the house, connect it all up and certify.

It's a two room building with big glass panels/sliding doors at either end. One room is going to be permanent workspace/office and one will have a smaller desk, sofa bed and be used for work and also as a sort of garden Room/additional living space...

Key things on my decision list are:

-Colour and paint type to use on outside
-What to do with the floor (stain? paint? carpet? rug?)
-What to with internal walls? I'm thinking a wall of bookshelves in the perm office at the back as we have loads of books we could bring out if storage...not sure for others. We have noisy neighbours behind where the office is going so maybe some othe rkind of sound insulation in the other room too on the back wall
-What to choose lighting wise- floor standing lamps maybe?

  • How many power outlets to put in
-What desk/sofa bed for the mixed use room

For context we live in a traditional Georgian house (white render, big floor to ceiling windows) but the garden office is v modern. We also have a number of other outbuildings which are painted a very dark stain, but I don't want this colour on the office though am concerned if we use a different colour am going to end up repainting all other outbuildings to match Blush

Books will suck up any damp so might not be a good idea over the colder months unless you have a dehumidifier. Also consider good heating so you can use it year round and save those books.

The only other advice is check it is close enough to the house for good wifi or get a cabled network connection to the office. You can get the sparky to do that when he lays the power.
