What flooring in extension?

Hi, we're building a downstairs extension housing a guest bedroom, though we'll probably use it as a reception room in future. We have a herringbone wooden floor in the rest of the downstairs (similar to this photo), and I'm struggling to find something that goes with it. I love wood but I think it will clash. I like patterned tiles but DH doesn't. Any suggestions?

Why not continue the existing herringbone?

Same flooring

As above - can you not match the existing floor?

sarahb083 · 16/11/2021 20:12

Oh I didn’t realise that was possible. The floor is about 70 years old - how do I go about finding matching flooring? Is it very expensive?

Pale stone or stone effect porcelain looks nice with herringbone.

Take a picture of the existing floor. But yes it’s possible. Google “reclaimed parquet floor”

A good wooden floor fitter and restorer should be able to match it for you. Alternatively, use a modern day LVT to create a herringbone floor and it won't jar, but will be a modern contrast to the original floor in the original house.
