Is there any way at all?

I'm not hopeful but I'm trying to wrack my brains. A few years ago I made a house and location move I regret massively, literally not a day goes by I don't think of the original place etc. (I have been doing everything to settle so please don't tell me I need to do that).

Anyway, an old neighbour's house has come up but we could not move back yet for a number of reasons and our house now is worth almost 200k less than house for sale. Our mortgage is less than 100k however, leaving us say 250k equity. Is there any thing we could do to get this house? Savings are 20-30k mark. Any ideas, including crazy ones, gratefully accepted. I'm at 'win the lotto quick' but after that I can't see what could work. If we were to get jobs in old area and sell, that would be very different and we would get and afford the bigger mortgage. But that is of course easier said than done.

Absolutely no expert but if I was you I would speak to a very good mortgage advisor and basically give them the whole picture and see if there is anything that can be done. You never know - you might be surprised!! Perhaps you could buy the other house as a buy to let initially if the numbers stack up?

We are working with a mortgage advisor now who is excellent (I think) and would happily share details if that would help you 😊

Thank, even just for some hope! The rebt we'd get there would be very high but I'm not sure how it all adds up and then there's a very high tax here on renting (Irl). Thank you tho and perhaps yes I need to do that.

Definitely see a mortgage adviser. We moved earlier this year and although the amount we needed to borrow was relatively low, we were gob smacked at the amount the lender was willing to lend us.
Good luck, I know the difference the right location makes

Thanks so much!

Ask the advisor about a bridging loan if you need to move fast and buy whilst selling yours.

We can't move yet you see, that's the thing..

A friend who's a mortgage adviser says 20% needed up front.. Which is around 100k. A lot.

Ah @HeyGirlHeyBoy do they mean 20% up front to buy it as a buy to let initially?

Could you use your savings and then take some equity out of your current house maybe?

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 19/11/2021 08:29

Savings won't touch 100k and no, it's separate to equity, which is around 250k.
