Just out of curiosity I decided to see what you could get for 50K or less in the UK. Hopefully this massive link will work for you so you dont have to adjust search settings yourself. Which do you think appeals to you most?

Auction estimate - have you never seen Homes Under the Hammer?? Will go for considerably over that.

My initial thought is West Midlands = mining = subsidence = insurance/mortgage nightmare.

Looking within 40 miles of Glasgow, there isn't one house under £50k where I'd actually be comfortable living.

I'm just under 40 miles away from Glasgow and house prices in our village vary hugely but the majority are all under £100K. It's a nice area with little crime (local weed dealers, local poaching and farm machinery thefts by outsiders is pretty much the only ones)

The semi detached 3 bed beside MIL's on a lovely wide street with tonnes of parking (not that it matters cos you can fit a couple of cars easily on the house's drive) just went for £50K. It's got a dining room and all the bedrooms fit double beds easily. Front, back and side gardens too although this one was fully paved. We were tempted but living next door to MIL? No. Nope. Nooo waaay.

This must be in a pretty naff area?! It’s a decent enough looking house. 3 bed. Looks like cosmetic work. There has to be a reason for that price tag!

Exactly the one I was going to link to. Why so cheap, I wonder?

Those Hartlepool houses are cheap for a reason.

We sold our last house, not a million miles away, for around 60k, though. We stayed there a fair few years. DH is from the area so had a good idea of where to avoid.
