Can I laminate over kitchen tiles?

We have some spare leftover laminate and was thinking of putting laminate over the current aged, awful floor tiles in kitchen. Laminate is waterproof and would update the aged kitchen.

If so, im guessing I wouldn't need underlay as the tiles would act as the underlay?

Could be bumpy?

Don't you need a proper, softer underlay? I imagine it would be noisy just over the tiles..

I think if the floor is level it would be fine. I don't think you need soft underlay under laminate?

Yes,you can,and yes you do need the proper underlay underneath it.

It's nothing to do with noise. If you don't have underlay, unlikely any floor is 100% even, the boards will lift up. You also need to be sure it's one that is made to withstand steam and water.

It'll raise the floor levels meaning that skirtings, architraves and plinths should all be redone and the door trimmed so as not to catch on it or you'll need beading round the edges which often just looks awful and the door will still need trimming. Also there'll be a difference in floor levels where the kitchen floor meets any adjoining rooms or spaces.

Thank you all, very good points. Ill probs not do it now and wait for full kitchen refurb.
