Local Authority Freeholder madness, help!

Hello all,

looking for advice or pointers please - I am a leaseholder and the council own freehold.
Major works on my flat, under the council so I have no control, very drawn out, still not resolved.
Main issue is that the roof which they replaced in 2016 has leaked constantly since then.
still not fixed five years later. Works still 'ongoing' apparently.
I have received an estimated bill for this roof of £15,800
yes, that's just for me, not the block.
what I need help with - logic says NO - they cannot charge me for a roof that is defective!
What do I do, has anyone else been here?
I've heard of extortionate fees once work is complete but to charge me for a roof that
a) never worked in first place and
b) has caused me five years of stress - this seems madness.

Where can I go to get support with contesting this cost? Or how do I come back to council with a convincing way of saying no, not paying.

I have tried my MP, the Mayor, all the people at the top of the council etc. my local ward Councillor too. All have been useless, they just come back with something like
'we have been assured that the works will be complete soon'
which is frankly bullocks.

Anyone been here? any tips or success stories? please help, losing sleep.
Thank you! X

Join the National Leasehold Campaign Facebook group and ask there for advice. Unfortunately pretty common for councils to present privately owned leaseholds with huge bills..

Have you spoken to a solicitor OP?
