Hello, hoping for some opinions on this kitchen design from wren. Felt a bit underwhelmed by their ideas. This was the best they could come up with. My husband likes it but there’s something not quite right/missing fit me but not sure what.

I would appreciate any thoughts ☺️

I have worktops next to my ovens, so when I get stuff out of the oven I don't have to walk somewhere with hot dishes etc.

I don't like the colour scheme, it looks very bland. We have a peninsula with stools and I love it. I much prefer that to an island.

My hob is next to the sink, so If I have to drain vegetables etc., I'm not walking across the kitchen with hot pans.

I think it’s a bit bland, and the fitted oven as the focal point is just wierd. It would be more interesting to have some sort of stove/range in its place or a statement sink. If you like the traditional country or shaker look, have a browse of Devol kitchens. They are experts in styling and adding character.. v pricey but you can recreate their design elements that you like very easily. You could easily rework that design to have some wall storage on the left hand wall for example, and then have a lovely statement focal point on the back wall where the built in oven is- stove or big sink, some glass door wall units, or even open shelving etc. Looks like a good size! Xo

@DoryisinCuba I think you might be right. Just checked our plans. The ‘kitchen’ section of the room is 3.6mx3.6m. Not big enough to allow for an island I don’t think.

@jamaisjedors I know, not ideal. We have 2 young kids so this layout won’t work.

@Callmejudith yes it’s an internal wall, which I thought was a strange place to put it. We wanted a downward draught fan but we’re told the worktop wasn’t wide enough 🤔 I also like the peninsula idea so will hopefully keep that in the plan.

@Rina66 thanks, good suggestion regarding the overhang, not something I had thought of.

@MissCreeAnt I was very underwhelmed by the designer. I assumed they would have lots of ideas but this was their best shot 😩 ours is 3.6x3.6. Not huge but they told us we couldn’t fit in a tumble dryer which I was surprised at. We don’t have a utility so it needs to go somewhere.

I agree with other folk about moving the oven units to the wall where the hob is. I also think you need more contrast. Our last kitchen had neutral colour doors and a light worktop and although it was nice it was too bland to have the wow factor.

I agree about going on Pinterest. Just start looking at kitchens ans allow yourself to go down a rabbit hole. Pin things you like and when you go through the things you’ve saved after you will probably notice a similar pattern in the style or colour scheme etc.

I did this when we did our bathrooms and found it really useful, as the choice felt overwhelming.

The other thing I’ve started doing is searching by the hashtag on Instagram. So I really like quite traditional Tom Howley style kitchens, we are going to go for the DIY Helmsley range which is similar but much much cheaper. So I’ve been searching #diykitchenshelmsley and it’s been really useful to see it in different colours, layouts, units I wouldn’t have thought to use etc.

Also once you do have a plan just allow yourself to mull it over for a bit. I had my absolute definite final plan a couple of weeks ago yet have found I’ve tweaked it loads!!
