Farrow and Ball whites - no such thing as 'just white'

I'm redecorating at the moment, and have gone for Wevet for the living spaces and one daughter's bedroom. When I did a tester patch, it looked like white with the faintest hint of grey. Having now painted half of my daughter's bedroom (north-facing), it looks worryingly lilac. It's an Edwardian house, so high ceiling, picture rail (woodwork is pure white), and the window is quite big (though not super bright given north-facing).

What's gone wrong? Is it maybe the pendant light (it's a warm bulb)? Or does Wevet actually have a lilac undertone? I really need to decide ASAP if Wevet is not the right colour for the rest of the house before the builders buy it!

HELP! 🆘

Is there a harder task than choosing white paint?!
We tried lots but then visited a friend’s new extension which was just the white we wanted.
Homebase own paint, White Linen? Matt or silk. We were renovating a smallish Victorian property and it’s white enough without being glaring. Used over the whole house; we may add colour later, I love the dark blues and greens.

For the woodwork, we've gone for F&B all white. Apparently it's different from other brands' generic whites, so we'll see. I do think F&B texture is miles above generics and colour matches. The paint is creamy and doesn't flick all over me while I roll - which all other cheaper paints I've used in the past have done.

We have all been driven mad by F&B whites at some point

Hehe this is probably the most mumsnet thing I have ever read :)

Naughtynovembertree · 14/11/2021 12:07

I went for Wimborne white on the recce of mum's net and I'm very happy with it.

I've got wevet and it looks different according to the light. It's good to live with though.

Those with Wevet, what colour does it look in your house? Which direction does the room face?

Take a look at the Earthborn whites. They are clay based so work really nicely in period properties

It’s a soft white with grey undertones in my east facing room, no hint of lilac whatsoever.

I had 20 whites on the walls in the choosing stage. Nightmare.

@jellybean30
Wevet is in a very sunny warm south facing bedroom in our house and it looks very white but in a soft sort of way. For north facing rooms I’m not getting any grey based tones, I’m a bit bored of grey everywhere and it can look cold. I think I prefer Little Greene paint for finish, but F&B have more advice and photos online. And the £15 F&B colour fan is really good value for reducing the number of tester pots bought. But then I still find it takes me ages to make paint decisions!

Thanks everybody for all the colour advice. Having decided on the colour my next conundrum is how to get the unwanted unused pot back to the online shop. Apparently couriers don't ship paint, even if it's in the original packaging and unopened, which is a bit bizarre. No takers on fb marketplace or gumtree either, what a costly mistake!

Dulux brilliant white is extremely stark and has blue pigments in it it’s horrible white

Helenabelle · 17/02/2024 17:54

I think I’m going for f&B all white
