Kitchen cupboards. Gloss or matt?

I want very modern, handleless, minimalist, soulless white. But can't decide between gloss and matt. Magnet charge more for matt because it's painted while gloss is vinyled on, but what looks better and what's easier to clean?

Thanks

Gloss! Matt picks up the oils from your skin and sinks into it. Gloss is really easy to keep clean, quick buff with windolene / glass cleaner

Holothane · 08/11/2021 22:54

@Arren12 Glad you love it I do to.

Another one for gloss - I had matt last time and it takes ( well it took me ) more effort to clean it - this time I have gone for dark wood for under counter drawers / cabinets and white gloss for a run of overhead cabinets. The wood is more of a bugger to clean. Yes you get fingerprints on gloss but it is the work of a minute or two to wipe them off. The matt took more cleaning ( but just one experience. )

Good luck Flowers

Gloss very easy and quick to clean and imo doesn't show up marks too much at all

CheddarGorgeous · 09/11/2021 06:34

Handleless is also good as I catch my pockets on my door knobs every time I walk past.

Twizbe · 09/11/2021 06:42

I love my white gloss kitchen. I can't see any marks anywhere. We do have handles though. Handless are crumb traps.

Sandrine1982 · 09/11/2021 06:52

MATT !!!!!!!

TizerorFizz · 09/11/2021 07:59

Matt for handless. You are touching them all the time! Gloss with handles.,

SalsaLove · 10/11/2021 02:47

@name3958

I thought matt didn't reflect?
Lol, you’re right I don’t know what kind of kitchen I bought 🙄
madisonbridges · 10/11/2021 03:29

I was talking to a salesman in B&Q about a lovely gloss, handleless kitchen. He said he had it and the lack of handles was a nightmare on the very wide drawers (used for pans etc) and he recommended against. He said you just couldn't get the purchase on the drawers to heave them out when they were heavy. And he was trying to sell them to me!

MazzleDazzle · 10/11/2021 06:41

I find that with handleless too @madisonbridges. It all depends on the angle. It’s a struggle to get the corner cupboards and pan drawers open. I have big hands and i just can’t seem to get a grip! I’ve broken many a nail trying to open them.

singingirl · 10/11/2021 06:49

Love our gloss cream handleless kitchen, would buy it again. (From Magnet as you are looking at.) So very easy to clean compared with matt. Reflects enough to look cool, and we don’t have any particular problems with smears etc, if I do see an odd one, it just wipes away beautifully. So fed up with handles catching and so pleased we went for handleless! I guess it’s all subjective anyway but I am part of the ‘go gloss’ camp 😂😂

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 10/11/2021 07:06

We still get fingerprints even with knobs as people tend to open using the knob but close by pushing the door. Howver being white gloss they wipe away easily and don't show much. The knobs never catch on anything either.

custardbear · 10/11/2021 07:22

We have navy handless and they do get fingerprinty - but I still love them and they're easy enough to clean off

Africa2go · 10/11/2021 11:25

Matt - personally think gloss is a bit dated but it's down to preference. We had white Matt handleless in our kitchen previously, when we extended we used it for the utility room so it's about 7 years old now. Still looks new and timeless (and have never had an issue with greasy fingerprints / marks).

ScreamingBeans · 11/11/2021 20:27

God I still don't know, too many differing views. Grin

@SalsaLove
I love your floor. Is it real wood or kardean type flooring?

madisonbridges · 11/11/2021 20:36

@ScreamingBeans. I know where you're ordering your cupboards from and I've got to inform you that gloss doors stopped being sold at 18.00 this evening and so you'll have to have matt.

Now how does that make you feel? Happy to go with matt? Or kicking yourself that you didn't order the gloss earlier?

ScreamingBeans · 11/11/2021 20:41

Ooh, that's good.

My instant feeling was "oh no!" and then "oh well that's quite good, I'm sure matt is fine and I can just get on with it".

How bright is your kitchen? Got gloss in my north facing kitchen and love it, spreads the light around. Last kitchen was Matt and just seemed much darker.

madisonbridges · 11/11/2021 20:48

Oh, @ScreamingBeans, you're hopeless! 🤷 😄

Although, tbf, they'll both look lovely so you can't lose really.

Real wood. I forget the name of the company. We love it but have no dogs or children, only a cat who loves to skid around on it. 😆

ScreamingBeans · 11/11/2021 21:49

My kitchen is quite dark. So maybe gloss....

We’ve just moved house, and now have a very old gloss kitchen. It’s easier to wipe clean than previous Matt one. BUT, the vinyl (?) wrap has come away at the edges of lots of the doors, which looks awful. The doors where it’s in good condition look very plastic. IMO the smallest scuff or damage will make the kitchen look crap, where you’d get away with it more in a Matt kitchen. So I don’t think they’d be as long-lasting, even if you spent a lot.

Mapletreelane · 11/11/2021 22:48

We have gloss. It's the Luca range from DIY kitchens and is a sprayed door rather than vinyl wrap.

I love it but regretted it at first as you can see finger marks immediately.

Then a friend had the most amazing top spec matt navy kitchen. It looks incredible....but the grease stains from hands are really obvious and really hard to wash off.

My gloss doors wipe clean so easily and quickly that now I am really glad I stuck to the gloss.

But really I'd go with the aesthetic that appeals to you more. Kitchens doors will always need a wipe so go with your heart and what you really fancy! Kitchen lighting can be really well thought out too, so you don't need gloss units to make it really light x
