relocating to devon

Hi there. Hoping someone can help.

We currently live offshore but the prices have gone crazy here (average price for a 2 bed house is 550k) and we are thinking of relocating to devon.

We have a trip booked for the end of November to see areas/houses.

We are looking for semi-rural - so a nice plot of land, not too close to neighbours but also on edge of a village/community - husband thinks around Taunton area but I just don't have enough of a handle on the area to decide if that's right.

We have 2 very young DC (1 and 3) so would want decent nurseries/schools - we love farm shops, eating out, the outdoors, and want to try to live a more wholesome and sustainable life, but also make some friends.

Has anyone got any recommendations?

Thank you in advance x

Wow, that does sound like a rough ride OP. £3-400K rise in house prices? Do you have family in the channel islands? Just thinking that moving is a big step. What will you do about work?

I moved during the last housing crash from a very desirable town, and prices there shot up afterwards... astronomically. Wr couldn't afford to live there now. However, we're happy and we found some really nice people in our less expensive area.

What do you want from your new area/town?

How are you getting on?

Have a look at the Tamar Valley, just into Cornwall. Near Tavistock, but not Tavistock prices. There are some OK primaries, and grammar schools in Plymouth. There are three houses for sale where I live, and I'm not sure if they have sold yet.

@XingMing - we arrived yesterday. Saw 1 house not for us. Seeing 2 today and 2 tomorrow then fly back. Visiting South Molton and Tavistock today. Axminster and Honiton tomorrow.

@thegcatsmother - thank you, we might have to look at that next time
