Manchester Area recommendations

FTB, budget between 250-300 . Looking for a 3 bed house, need reliable connections to Manc city centre. So a bus that comes regularly or a tram. trains that come once an hour don't count..
Any recommendations as to areas?
Google says that Levenshulme is up and coming but lots of people ahve said that it's a dump.
My preference would be the Trafford area (where I currently rent) but buying is way out of my price range

I wouldn't say the Kingsway Park estate was a great option - just keep your eye out on Rightmove OP is Urmston is somewhere you're willing to consider. Quite a few 3 bed semis in your price range.

Extending has become very expensive and hard to get builders.

Secondary school in Urmston is a nightmare if you dont want to do 11+, aren't Catholic and have boys. There's Flixton Girls but boys options not so good.

I’d recommend the areas around Davenport and Woodsmoor. Trains run at 30 min intervals into Piccadilly and you also have the 192 bus a short walk away. Nearby Stockport is having loads of money pumped into the area and there’s loads of momentum in the food/drink sector in the old town. You shouldn’t struggle to get a 3 bed terrace for your budget and 3 bed semis tend to go for £300k+

@hannahcolobus

I left Levenshulme two years ago after being there for three years. The ‘up and coming’ thing was such a lie!!! I got bored of it not actually ever getting any better. I sometimes work there and sadly it’s not changed, possibly got worse. Either way I’m definitely glad I moved. It’s very poor value for money compared to other parts of Manchester.
Which part of Levy were you in? And where did you move to..?

That suits me great, I’ll have a look around the 192 bus areas

I know South Manchester quite well, was going to say 192 areas as very regular or Marple, lovely place to live and two train stations you can walk to, takes 30 mins to manchester centre. Can be expensive but ex council houses are on nice small estates for that amount or go for two bed terrace with option for loft conversion which is what I've done (now 3 bed & 2 bathrooms and worth far more than I paid). Lovely view of pennines and canal, great restaurants, cute old fashioned cinema and plans for new leisure centre in a good park for children. Schools seem OK although I'm too old to need them so can't advise on that👍

MissFritton65 · 10/11/2021 22:44

@Mossstitch I lived in Marple for over a decade and agree it's lovely but I think you would be very lucky to get a 2 or 3 bed in the OP's price range that doesn't need a lot of work plus the transport links into Manchester don't really meet the regular definition required by the OP.

This house is about 30 mins walk from Bury tram.
DD2 has just moved into a house the other side of Ainsworth Rd; hers also backs onto a sports club with similar open views.
It seems to be a really nice area. Worth a look around Smile
