Leasehold windows - who pays?

Just that really. Who is normally responsible for the windows in a leasehold arrangement? The freeholder of the building or leaseholder of the flat?

Freeholder, but check your lease.

Read your lease. It varies between leaseholder, freeholder and best one ever - freeholder responsible for the outside, lessee for the inside. Hmm

We had to pay when leasehold, but get permission from the management company and have windows in keeping with the existing single glazing. So we had to have leaded diamonds.

@cloverleafy - ha ha, what would that even MEAN? I'm pretty sure it's leaseholder for us but just hoping it isn't as rot has suddenly made itself known this autumn and it's going to be £££ to refurb and we've been trying to sell for a year so really didn't want to pour any more money into it

It all depends on the lease. In our old flat it was the leaseholders. In a previous one the freeholders but that doesn't mean they pay for it, the freeholders were in charge of maintaining them but that was then charged via the service charge to the leaseholders so which ever way the leaseholders pay.

In mine, it was the freeholders. But they don’t pay. The leaseholders pay, via either the service charge or, in my case, they are presented with a very expensive bill.

Some years ago I rented a flat from a family member for a short while. The FH was responsible for the frames and the LH was responsible for the glass! Total madness. Half way through my tenancy the family member just replaced everything.
