Oven now not working after power cut

Pebbledashery · 30/10/2021 21:20

Had a power cut earlier. Power now back on but the oven isn't switching on..
Any ideas on why this could be and what I need to do, I rent via a letting agent. Power cut was caused by a faulty metre box.

Set the clock

Vulpius · 30/10/2021 21:20

Are the time and date set? Ovens can fail to start up again after a power cut if they lose the date/time info.

doodlejump1980 · 30/10/2021 21:22

If it’s gas, has the ignition switch switched off?

Pebbledashery · 30/10/2021 21:23

It's literally not on at all.. I can't even get the clock on

Sounds idiotic, but where can I find that. My oven is built in and there's two power cables that plug into a cupboard next to it, that's all I can see.

Check the fuse board that the fuse to the oven isn't tripped.

Pebbledashery · 30/10/2021 21:25

Oh sorry its an electric oven. Gas hob, electric oven.

@cultkid

Set the clock
This. My stupid range cooker insists you set the clock before one of the ovens will work.
TheLastSpookyBakedBeanSaysBoo · 30/10/2021 21:32

Check the fuse box.
If it's not that and there's literally no display I would call the landlord

purplesequins · 30/10/2021 21:33

have a look at the fuse box. ours always trips out a few things after a power cut.

GenderAtheist · 30/10/2021 21:34

Check if the plastic switch is in the correct position on the consumer unit .

Check if the isolator switch is on for the cooker - it’s probably on the splashback. It might be red.

saleorbouy · 30/10/2021 21:38

Check the electrical distribution box and see if the cooker fuse has tripped, it will be the 40Amp one.
If that is OK then the clock might need to be reset. Google the make/model number and you should find a pdf of the instructions.

GenderAtheist · 30/10/2021 21:38

When you say a power cut - do you mean the whole street / area? Or just your property ?

It’s unusual for the cooker fuse to go because it’s designed to take more power.

Pebbledashery · 30/10/2021 22:01

So all I know is the display is blank, I've tried to reset the clock and nothing has happened.. All I can see is the two plugs in the socket in the cupboard next to the cooker. I can't see any other switches.. Checked the fuse board again and everything is on..
I'll have to call the letting agent.
It was just a power cut in my property, my neighbour is a gas engineer and quickly came up to look at the metre box and commented its an old metre box and I should get it replaced.

Turn the oven power off at the wall to reset.

Pebbledashery · 30/10/2021 22:25

That's what I've done several times, still nothing.
Guess I have to call the letting agents on Monday..

Change the fuse in the plug.

GenderAtheist · 31/10/2021 08:47

Is the socket like this?

If it’s an old oven it might be terminal. My DM had exactly this. She did get the clock working after a power cut but nothing else. Oven was 25 years old and a Belling. So it was replaced. Speak to the agent/landlord.
