Hello ladies,
Please suggest and guide me to decide the place near Bristol to move with my family.
My company in in Clevedon, North Somerset. Hubby works from home.
I have to travel to my office thrice a week or so.
I have 2 kids DD will be joining Sixth Form next academic year and DS is n Y5.
As everything is new to us, we don't have any specific area on our mind. Preference will be given to good schools, and my travel to work time upto 30 min. Also the budget for buying a house would be 300K Max.
I hope to find a nice neighborhood with these criteria.

Thanks

You’ll struggle to find a house for £300k. How many bedrooms? That’s more of a flat budget in many BS neighbourhoods these days. Have guy looked on right move? The Bristol property market is mayhem still.

You will really struggle on that budget to buy a family sized house in a nice area anywhere near Bristol. Impossible in the city itself and secondary schools in Bristol are not good so you would need at least double that to get anywhere near a good one. I think you will need to look more rurally in the opposite direction from Clevedon.

Bristol secondary schools are excellent these days. RGS / Fairfield / trinity / Montpelier high / cathedral are all great options. Lockleaze would be your only hope at that budget though (for trinity) and it’s still quite grim (imo)

RGS is known to be very good and Bristol Free is up and coming but I have literally never heard anyone describe Bristol secondaries as excellent! In any case it’s a moot point as the OP wants a good neighbourhood and £300k will only buy a family house in the worst parts of Bristol that definitely don’t feed into any of the ok schools.

Agree that moving in opposite direction on Clevedon (closer to Weston, mendips) might give you more for your money? Churchill Academy is meant to be very good.

We are in a small village in the Mendips and for us it has been wonderful. Where we are feels very rural, but close enough to shops, amenities, etc for all they day to day stuff.

Why do you need to be in Bristol if your workplace is in Clevedon? Schoolwise, there are good ones in Portishead and Backwell and probably in Weston too (can't remember their names). Look for North Somerset website. I can't comment about house price in those areas though.

My friend was a teacher at Backwell and Oxford educated. He always spoke highly of the other staff.
Me, well I love St Paul's, St Werbs, Fishponds and Easton. Don't see the point of living in the city if you don't want your kids to go to school with people of all walks of life. You might as well stick to the suburbs.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 01/11/2021 19:34

Backwell, Wraxall and Nailsea working visiting, or living in clevedon itself would be a good option?

Moonshine86 · 01/11/2021 19:41

Portishead is a ten minute drive away from clevedon and is lovely. Gordano school is worth considering.
