Oil based wood preserver

Hello everyone. I'm venturing into an unfamiliar part of the board here, but I'd really appreciate your advice on what wood preserver would be best to use on new wooden gates. They cost ££ Shock, so I don't want to use the same water based stuff I've painted the fence with. Please advise me, so I can get them done before winter sets in.

Thank you

We used Barretine wood protective treatment to paint a shed earlier this year. Cannot comment on the effectiveness and longevity of the protection yet, as it's been just a few months, but the reviews are good. It was really easy to apply.

I also used Barretine Wood protective treatment on my new shed. It is clear and I put 2/3 coats on my 6 ft by 10ft shed and used less than 5 litres. It was recommended by the shed company.

I also used Cuprinol Garden Shades in the past (again, for a shed). The manufacturer claims the protections should last 6 years, if properly applied. I'd say our old shed started looking a little bit tired by year 5 or so, if looking very closely. But given it was in a very exposed position, I'd say the colour lasted quite well.

Thank you to those above for taking the time to reply - it's much appreciated.

I also use barretine wood preservatives. They are oil based. I’ve used the clear and the coloured, both are excellent.

Looks like it's going to be Barretine, then! I knew that if I posted here I'd get good advice Smile
