Hi all, my husband and I are looking at purchasing a property. We have seen a couple we like in Kidderminster however we have no idea of the area and what it is like. Can anyone advise please. We saw a lovely house on Walter Nash Road. What is this area like?
Any recommendations?
Thanks all xx

I lived in Kiddy for a few years until about ten years ago and I'm still a regular visitor due to seeing friends etc.

That area you're looking at is the Stourport Road side so you'll need to consider any commute as that road can be a nightmare at rush hour. If you need to get to the station then what looks like a quick drive won't be.

When I lived there I lived on a new build estate by the canal which was lovely as you could walk into town or in the other direction straight into countryside and a great pub at the end.

Wolverley would be my area of choice if I moved back.

If you don't know the area then Kidderminster town centre is quite run down but there is just next to it Brewers Wharf which has M&S and TKMaxx and some new decent places to eat (vast improvement on when I lived there) and also a big 'out of town' type retail park which is walkable to the town centre.

Wollescote is ok - not great - depending on which part you go. It’s near lye which is the rougher side. Good for transport links and local pubs/breweries/parks/etc though!
I like Stourbridge on the whole, which road are you looking at?

Hey thank you for the info. We're looking at Woodfield Avenue. Do you know what it's like there? Any areas you recommend?

It depends on your budget really. For my budget last year, I could have only afforded lye/wollescote in Stourbridge, and I ended up moving to Dudley where I got more house for less money, and on what I feel is a nicer road with more to offer in terms of location.
I was really keen on a house on Springfield avenue, so only a couple of roads down!

Pros - it’s near a big park, near a train station
Cons - there’s occasionally some trouble near the park, some of the junctions and roads around there are crazy busy and awful in traffic. It’s a bit unloved, and lye especially to me feels a bit like going back to the 60s.

What is it you like about it? I like Wollaston but your money won’t go as far and it’s further from a station. Nicer family feel though. Pedmore and chawn hill are just down from wollescote but house prices rise sharply the nearer you get!

Horsefair, Rifle Range and Birchen Coppice all used to be considered the dodgier areas in Kidderminster. The Stourport Road itself gets very busy around rush hours and anytime they decide to close the roundabout on the other side of Silverwoods/ put traffic lights on the bridge over the Severn Valley railway line! If you like walking into town, bear in mind the underpasses often flood during very heavy rain. Most areas are safe enough to walk around during the day, but avoid places like the parks at night.

Some of the areas out towards Bewdley, Wolverley and Franche were well thought of. There are a few streets with decent sized houses and gardens near the Holy Trinity School too.

Are you planning to commute? Train station does have regular services into the West Midlands, not so regular into Worcester (and the A449 is a super frustrating drive if undertaken every day).

Bear in mind things like doctors and dental surgeries too. Think they normally have places at the local doctors surgeries, but you might need to go on a waiting list for a local NHS dentist. If you're happy to go private, there's a good one on the Comberton Road that does dental plans.
