Where are nice places to live in Carlsile?

I am moving to carlisle for work.
Where are the nice places to live?
I have looked at other feeds but all of them were from years ago and would like updated info. All of them said that the North of the river is more sought after but I don't know if this includes Kingston Industrial estate and Belah.
My budget is £275k
Thank you :)

How far out are you prepared to go? (Train or drive.)

The surrounding areas are stunning.

chloe3215 · 27/10/2021 19:36

Don't mind :) - like half an hour commute

North of the river is definitely more sought after, mostly because that puts you in catchment for Trinity secondary school, which is significantly better than any of the other secondaries actually in the city. And that does include anywhere North of the river, so Belah is ok (most streets in Belah are mixed council and private owners), or Lowry hill is nice, Stanwix is closer to the city centre and has some lovely houses, Kingstown has a couple of new estates which are pretty popular.

There are some lovely villages if you fancy living further out.

Do you have kids that need schools? Primary or secondary? The primary schools North of the river are oversubscribed so you might struggle to get them in there.

I would prefer to stay in Carlisle so it is easier to get to work tho. What are the surrounding areas in and around Carlisle like?

I have kids in secondary school so Trinity secondary school sounds good. What are the areas that should be avoided at all costs?

Roughly where in Carlisle will you be working? In the city centre? And will you be driving for your commute or would you prefer to walk/bus?

Do NOT move to Raffles. You wouldn't though, as that's mostly council estates. Most areas have some nice streets and some not so nice streets though afaik.

With your budget you'll be able to find something nice in Carlisle or on the outskirts.

In the hospital as I got a job there :)

What are the surrounding areas like? I have done some research and some of them are very expensive...

This is a bit far out for me, but it's within your budget. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/79543227?utm_campaign=property-details&utm_content=buying&utm_medium=sharing&utm_source=copytoclipboard#/&channel=RES_BUY

Wigton road can be quite nice but has quite a bit of traffic. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/114894416?utm_campaign=property-details&utm_content=buying&utm_medium=sharing&utm_source=copytoclipboard#/&channel=RES_BUY It's very close to the hospital, but the secondary school catchment is not so good, although you might be able to send them to Caldew or Nelson Thomlinson from there (both a bus journey away, Caldew is closer)

There may not be anything in your budget but wetheral is lovely

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/10/2021 20:03

Yes, some are very expensive. I live in a pretty cheap area of Carlisle, in an ex council house though, so I'm pretty easily pleased. My main priorities were making sure the schools were good when we bought our house. I, personally, would never choose to send my child to either of the Richard Rose schools, so I chose a worse house in catchment for a better school.

How many bedrooms do you need? I love a good search on Rightmove.
