Living room wall colour to go with grey carpets that’s isn’t grey or white? Andy ideas welcomed!

We’ve moved into our new house, different carpets all round the house and we will eventually get new ones consistently throughout the house when we find some money!

The carpets downstairs in the living room and dining room are silvery grey. I’m desperate to rip off the grey silver wallpaper and paint the walls however what colour? I love warm neutrals, sand colours, greens etc. I really don’t want grey or white. It’s a large north facing lounge wall with adjoining dining room that I’d do the same colour.

Thanks a lot x

Greens or blues would be lovely but may be too cool for a north facing room. Some people recommend a dark punchy colour in a north facing room, a dark green or a dark navy. However, I often find that this works well if you have beautiful 10 foot high ceilings in a period house. Not so much in a more modern house with lower ceilings where it can look very oppressive.
What about sand colour, perhaps a very pale peach, or even a very pastel pink:
Edward Bulmer Jonquil, Farrow and Ball Peignoir are light greyish pinks.
Dulux Soft Coral is a very pale peachy colour.
Best wishes

We've got a lovely light lilac that goes well with our grey sofa (wood floor but don't see that matters).

Isn’t the point that grey goes with everything? We have grey with navy sofas and bright cushions.

I have a very pale pink with my grey .

NaturalHessian is my go to shade, neutral, warm and stylish IMHO.

I also love pale pink but would probably go with a warm pale blue (bordering on lilac)

We have Dulux quintessential blue in our north facing living room and get lots of compliments

Ochre.

F&B Lime White - changes colours from greeny to creamy depending on the light. I have used it over the years in different houses and it always looks lovely.

Oh and Ochre as per previous poster - I have this in my hall and it is beautiful. I also have an ochre sofa on a light grey carpet and it goes very well.

Teal

I have white walls with my (inherited) grey carpet and an orange sofa. Pink, yellow, orange are all options on the warmer side.

I have the dark navy (Dulux sapphire salute) as suggested by @OakPine on my north-facing dining room wall and adjacent. Mine is a small space (think 1970s bungalow) so low ceilings but it open into a longer and wider lounge area which gets a lot of light. The other walls are white but broken up with a deep teal colour block surrounding the fireplace. If you were wanting to create a cosey space the dark colour works great.

I'm also a big green and warm tones fan - for a deeper green blue I'd look at Inchrya Blue (Farrow and Ball) rather than an all-out deep navy. On the lighter side Dulux Heritage sage green is gorgeous and is a really warm tone green.

ostrom · 28/10/2021 09:57

to add, I wouldn't say the sapphire salute and white is a particularly warm combination, but I have it with a warm wood flooring in the dining area (changes to the carpet for the lounge) and have a lot of warmer wood furniture so this softens it a lot.
