About to move but feel I’ll miss old home

Multiple reasons why we are moving, parking probs, house too big now etc, have wanted to move for years.

Finally about to move to ideal (on paper) house and I’m worried I’ll miss the old property. We raised our kids here so it has a lot of memories. Is this a normal feeling? Last time we moved was well over 20 years ago and we moved from a rubbish house into a lovely one so all of the feelings were positive. Now I feel I’m leaving my lovely family home behind!

Anyone felt this before?

Yes - totally normal. We moved out of the most beautiful house in the world. Raised family there. Loved ever second of living there. Like you, it was time to move on and hand it back to the universe!

Totally normal to feel like that, but once you get settled in your new home, it will become home, and you will look upon your old family home fondly, the memories come with you. We made a similar move at the beginning of this year, we are all happy, no regrets. Good luck.

Thank you! I’m on the verge of saying we aren’t moving 🤣 but it’s time to move on for all sorts of reasons. I can’t think of a reason to stay except I’ll miss it. All those lovely memories, it has been a happy house!

I’m moving from a very very large two bedroom house in the countryside. To a four each small in size bungalow.
Size wise they are the same. But my house is very open plan so I am worrying about feeling closed in and not enough space etc etc. But due to medical problems we have had to move.
But I am so worried. I love my current house and would defiantly not be moving if it wasn’t for medics issues.

Completely normal. But I've just recently moved, been in about a month now and barely even think about the old house. Once you get settled and find your way around the new place, it'll be just fine!

Totally understand OP. We’ve just exchanged on our next home which is gorgeous and a step up the ladder for us. But I love my current home of ten years, so much laughter (and tears) here. The only reason we are moving is because we can’t face extending and adding a loft conversion so we’re going to a place that’s already done.
I keep telling myself that we have had a great time here and now it is someone else’s turn and we are lucky that we are moving (voluntarily) upwards for happy reasons as opposed to say divorce/death!

Thanks everyone 👍 good to know it’s normal and it dissipates!

Yes, but your new home will gradually start feeling like your loved home once you live in it.
